Week 3 Term 6

Before we dive into this week, we firstly have to make an apology - we missed a couple of blogs - due to technical issues! We hope we have now resolved the issue but please please take a look at the 'main menu' as you will have missed Week 2 - Term 6.

Ok - back to this week......

Just when we thought it would never arrive, the clouds have finally parted and Summer is here! The children eagerly dusted off their Summer hats, hung up their cardigans and jumpers and took to the great outdoors....well they certainly spent a lot of time in Robins outside area!

From delicious blackcurrant tea with a side helping of chocolate chip biscuits to exploring colour mixing using the coloured water, Robins loved exploring the outdoor kitchen, spending hours creating storylines and becoming immersed in their play, it was simply lovely to see!

On Tuesday Robins created their very own doubling butterflies! They were fantastic at recognising what was meant by doubling and were able to begin to write their very own number sentences for their butterfly, mentally working out the doubles for numbers up to 5. Remember to keep practising your recall of doubles!

Double 1 is ..... Double 2 is.... Double 3 is... Double 4 is ...... Double 5 is ..... Keep going! How many do you know?

As the sun continued to shine it was the perfect day time outside in Forest school and we couldn't have been prouder of ourselves when we returned to Robins wearing our wooden necklaces that we had made!

With the help of course from Mrs Oram we held the wood still as the saw cut through it and then we drilled a hole through our wooden circle so that we could thread a piece of string through. It was almost complete but first we needed to decorate it, which of course we did, labelling them with our names and then wearing them with pride!

This week Robins have been developing their rapid recognition of number bonds to 10 using Numicon to make number bond aliens!

Remember to keep practising your number bonds to 10 at home so that you can recall them quickly! How many can you tell someone at home?

As I stood on the gate on Tuesday I suddenly saw a sea of cuddly toys coming towards me, of course it the time had come for First Aid training and our precious cuddly toys were ready to be our special helpers!

Robins listened intently as Vicky introduced herself and they loved playing "What's in the First Aid box?", we had fantastic guesses from plasters to bandages but we also learnt that medicine wouldn't be in the First Aid box. Vicky then taught us how to find our pulse, we explored finding it either on our wrist, our chest or on our neck and even had a go on our partner, it was great fun even if it was a bit tricky at first!

Suddenly our cuddly toys had pick up a sweet from the floor and were choking! We had to learn on the job, we checked and they were unconscious so it was time to ring 999 and deliver CPR!

We positioned our patient on their back, interlocked our hands and our fingers and placed them on the patients chest pressing down 30 times to the beat of the song Staying alive by the Bee Gees! Once we had completed 30 compressions we then did 2 breaths into their mouth, making sure that we tiled their head by lifting their chin.

Robins didn't stop until help arrived! Luckily we managed to save all of our patients today!

It was now time for the recovery position! Robins loved practising putting their 'patients' into the recovery position although did need reminding at times that it wasn't a race, poor 'patients'!

As the 3 ingredients, dough, tomato's and cheese, were slowly read out to the children they pondered what we might be cooking this week, could it be pizzas or might it be toasted paninis? Either way both sounded delicious and were met with sounds of mmm's and squeals of delight. We were of course making cheese and tomato pizzas and the children were all eager to get started, Robins Pizzeria was open for business!

Our first job was to cut the tomatoes and Robins knife skills were very impressive, ensuring they kept their fingers away from the knife and using the knife to cut the tomato into small pieces ready for their pizza!

It was now time for the dough and as we rolled it, spun it and pulled it into shape, we truly felt like we were chefs in a pizzeria!

As we placed the tomato on and crumbled the cheese onto the pizza it was time to place the pizza into the oven. When the oven door open the smell of pizza drifted down through the classroom and all of Robins couldn't wait to eat their pizza when they got home!

Summer had definitely arrived on Wednesday as Robins went outside to pick the strawberries that we have been growing! As we began picking them we couldn't believe our eyes at how many had grown! We took them back inside, washed them and then enjoyed them....they were delicious!

Robins even watered the plants to make sure we keep them hydrated and growing in the summer months!

We couldn't believe our eyes this week when Mrs Bell was our mystery reader! We not only really enjoyed listening to Mrs Bell read us a story but she also brought bubbles with her which we loved!!!!

For our Dear Zoo story this week we started our writing and the children as always never fail to impress us! We used our story map to write the first part of the story where the zoo send us an elephant! Why not have a go at telling the story at home to practice it ready for next week?

In Phonics this week Robins played sentence substitution to help create even better sentences!

In our French lesson this week Madame Wilson talked to Robins about the French Olympics event that we are having next Friday and how we are going to be getting ready for it next Thursday afternoon, it all sounded very exciting!

We then read the story of The very hungry caterpillar in French, going over the names of different foods in French and discussing whether we liked them or not!

We loved going on welly walk in the sunshine this week and particularly enjoyed getting to go to the playground and have a go on the adventure trail!

It was then time to take a well deserved rest and enjoy our snack!

In the afternoon we enjoyed playing some parachute games in the sunshine, what a way to end the week!

Well what a busy week Robins have had, from learning First Aid to picking their very own strawberries, it has been non-stop Summer learning

Have a wonderful weekend, enjoy the sunshine and we will see you all on Monday when we look forward to hearing all about your weekend adventures!
