Chicks

You cannot have failed to notice that the weather has turned increasingly chilly! During our morning weather forecast check in, it has been wonderful to see the children’s understanding of the weather deepen week on week, with vocabulary such as ‘drizzle’ being used and the children showing increasing understanding of what the different symbols mean, we are even discussing whether we need an extra blanket on the bed because it's going to be -4° this weekend!

What have we been learning this week.....

This week in maths we have been looking at the composition of numbers, continuing to explore the part-part-whole model and understanding that parts make up a whole. On Monday the children loved playing the guess who game where they guessed what or who was hiding behind the block, naming the part that they could see and then naming the whole! Why not have a go at this one, who’s behind the curtain?

The children enjoyed exploring lots of different ways of composing number 4 and 5 connecting multilink cubes together and then printing them onto paper using paint, they then decomposed them and composed them again in a different way, how many ways are there?

This week we put the finishing touches onto our Diva lamps. On Monday we applied the first layer using brightly coloured paint to give our Diva lamps a base colour. We then waited for our Diva lamps to dry and then decorated them using gems.  We were focussed and careful and we all agreed that the (almost) finished lamps are looking great!

Out in the 'rainforest area' this week we wanted nothing more than to create our very own marble run! Using the wooden blocks, we carefully constructed a course, setting up the blocks on the table and being very careful to make sure we didn’t knock them down causing a domino effect! We then enjoyed testing our marble run using a ball, pushing it carefully around the course, needless to say this led to what seemed like hours of endless fun!

POP......went the popcorn as it flew out of the pot and into the hand of a Robin as we played Phonics Popcorn! The children this week wowed us with their sound recall, passing the pot of ‘popcorn’ around and saying the sound that they picked out but if they picked out the word POP……then all of their ‘popcorn’ went POP! It was fast paced, it was fun and most importantly it showed how far our children have come with phonics, great work Robins!

Show and Tell continues to be very popular and we can really see the quality of the questions improving. This week, we heard all about tap dancing - we were shown some tap shoes, some tap moves and a trophy! We also heard about Foxy the favourite teddy who gets cuddles all night long - our hearts were melting.

There are lots of 'other' things going on in the classroom right now - we don't want to spoil any surprises yet other than to say they are exciting things.......all to do with Christmas crafts and Nativity performances....that's all we can say at the moment!

Something exciting that we can share is the visit we had on Friday from the chicks! It was cuteness overload, with lots of smiling faces and extremely gentle hands.

Have a great weekend - wrap up warm and see you all next week.
