End of Term 1

Before we jump into this week, do you remember that last weeek we said we would wrangle with the technology to get the video uploaded - well here it is  - grab a cuppa and enjoy the next 2 minutes!

This week

And just like that we are in the final week of the first half of the Autumn Term! We are incredibly proud of how well all the Robins children have settled in, it is like they have been in school so much longer than they have but we know that they are also ready for a well-deserved week’s rest! As another week began we said goodbye to the warm weather and a chilly blast made its way across Robin’s outside area, “There’s ice in our tuff tray Mrs Brown!” they said excitedly as they came into school on Monday morning, dressed in more layers than previous weeks!

They were all excited to get outside and explore the ice on Monday morning, turning over the bowls and breaking up the ice with anything that they could find.

“I can see through it”

“It’s the same shape as the bowl!”

Although the ice didn’t last long they certainly enjoyed breaking through it to “rescue” the frogs and even had a go at creating their very own coloured ice. Our frozen hands meant that we couldn’t stay outside too long though and needed to warm up inside!

We have also enjoyed developing our fine motor skills this week, showing particular enthusiasm for the loom band board.

“Look Mrs Brown, I made a rainbow”

“Look at the shapes I made!”

The children also made some lovely dot pictures using cotton wool buds and paint, they really took their time to ensure they only painted on the dots and decided carefully what colours they would use. What fantastic control!

On Tuesday afternoon Robin’s cooking club used Harvest apples which came from one of own children’s gardens to make apple crumble! The children loved taking responsibility for cutting up the apple into small pieces and then working together to mix vegan butter, flour and sugar together to make the crumbliest crumble you have ever tasted!

It was very difficult at times not be tempted to make it into playdough because we do love playdough but we resisted and with a little prompting we crumbled the mixture rather than being tempting to knead the mixture! Great work chefs!

Here are some additional photos of the Maths games, pecncil control and phonics learning that we have also been doing.

Then it was Thursday.....and we were super excited.....and dressed ready for it - yes it was our Pilgrimage.

Our Pilgrimage

We had originally planned our Pilgrimage for last July....but can you believe it, the weather stopped us from going ahead!

We rescheduled it for this week, and again, it looked like the weather was going to stop us........we were all watching the weather closely, every day, almost every hour.....right up to 9.00 on Thursday morning we were still checking.....and the decision was made - we we going for it. We had a quick debrief in the school hall at 9.00 followed by a prayer led by a past pupil - then it was waterproofs and wellies on and we were off!

Luck was certainly on our side and we managed to dodge most of the rain. We had the most fantastic time, we laughed, we smiled, we shared stories and simply enjoyed each others company and friendship. Not one Robin complained about being worn out or being tired, they were thoroughly immersed in the journey. We walked with our special 'walking staff', tying coloured ribbons when we reached certain 'milestones' on our journey e.g we tied a red ribbon at the bug hotel, a dark green ribbon at the pre school, gold when we said 'goodbye' to Red Kites and Owls at Maidencourt Farm ,they headed on to East Garston, whereas Robins and Kingfishers looped around and headed back to Great Shefford.

Have a wonderful half term break.

Don't forget it is an INSET day on the first Monday, so see you all on Tuesday 31st October.
