It's February....at last

February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.

Touch wood, we have not had too much rain this week but we have experienced slightly higher temperatures - enough to thaw any ice that may have been lingering.

This week.....

Thank you to everyone who came into school this week for parents evenings - your support certainly makes all the difference!!!!

What a fantastic Gymnastics session we had this week! Look at us doing our stretches to warm up!

Anita taught us how to use some of our gymnastic poses to move along the bench. First we did a 'squat on' and then we bunny hopped across. Next, we balanced across the bench doing a tuck jump off the end and finally we got to do a step and dip movement across the bench before finishing with a forward roll off the bench! Despite all being a bit unsure to begin with we all gave it a really good go, well done Robins!

A great start to the week in Maths which finished with Friday's Number day. Robins loved singing 5 little men in a flying saucer and began to deepen their understanding of how numbers are represented, working out pairs of numbers that make 5.

On Tuesday we explored the idea of '5 and a bit' using the dice frame to represent 6. The 5 little men invited one of their friends to their flying saucer - so that made 6 altogether. We looked at all the different ways that we could represent 6!

Tuesday was of course cooking afternoon. This week we all worked together and baked at the same time with Mrs Langford working with half the class and Mrs Brown with the other half, it was just like Bake off! When we explained to the children that this week they would be making scones, it was interesting to hear how many of them had never tried a scone - well this week was their chance tp have a go - not only would we be making scones but memories too! As the scones came out of the oven they smelt delicious but as we always say the proof is in the eating so we can't wait to hear what Robins thought!

As well as taking part in a weekly Gymnastic session, we also take part in a weekly balance bike session - this week we were listening carefully to the sequence of traffic lights, learning how to stop safely using the brakes and not the toes of our trainers!!!!!!!

Friday was all about the numbers. Everyone had some sort of Number theme going on and we talked numbers all day. We drew Numberblocks, we played Number games, we counted.....we even asked the school nurse about her favourite number - it's 13.

And after all that number learning it was time to enjoy a very well earned mid afternoon snack......with a bit more counting thrown in (counting crackers, blueberries, strawberries, tangerine segments).

Have a good weekend - I am off to Wales to see my family.

See you all next week  - last week of term 3 - where has the time gone.
