Term 4- The big school clean up!
As we entered the final week of March and the penultimate week of the term, we were all excited to return from worship armed with our little picking devices! We learnt all about what litter is, why people litter and the damage that littering causes, we also learnt about how we can help to make things better and enjoyed listening to the story of 'The life of the little plastic bottle'.
It was soon time for Maths and this week we were focusing on where numbers are in relation to each other up to number 8. Robins loved building the number blocks staircase to 8, using language such as 'more than' and 'less than' when placing numbers in the sequence.
As the week continued in Maths, Robins loved playing 'hide and seek' with the number blocks and discussing the concept of 'more than'. We talked about whether certain numbers could hide behind other numbers, using the language 'more than' to give reasons why....
"2 can hide behind 3 because 3 is more than 2"
"3 can hide before 4 because 4 is more than 3"
"4 can hide behind 5 because 5 is more than 4"
We had so much fun playing Number block hide and seek!
In Jigsaw this week we started off with a mini meditation and as the peaceful jellyfish filled the screen we settled into our session. This week our focus was all about keeping healthy and as we came out of our meditation Mrs Brown introduced the idea of our tummy's being like a garden and if we think of them as a garden we will 'feed' them in a healthy way so they flourish! Robins loved telling Jigsaw Jenny all about the healthy foods that they 'feed' their garden.....
"I like strawberries and blueberries"
"I have broccoli and carrots, cooked and uncooked!"
"I like to have asparagus and I also like uncooked carrots"
"I have porridge for breakfast with honey"
"I have porridge but I have strawberries, raspberries and berries"
Within RE this week Robins learnt the Easter story and were slightly amazed that there was not an Easter egg in sight! As we read the story together, Robins asked lots of questions like "Why did Judas go and tell the enemies where Jesus was?" and "How did Jesus come back to life?"
Robins enjoyed discussing the story and learnt that they would be retelling the story in church next week! To complete our Easter story session everyone made their very own Palm leaf, working hard to colour it in and then cut around it and along the lines so that it looked like a real palm leaf!
Please help your child to practice their part of the Easter story at home ready to read it out in church next Wednesday!
As our Easter activities continued Robins were amazing at showing off their precision skills when creating a mosaic design on their cross ready for an Easter craft that we are making. Just look at how the Robins took their time to place their coloured squares, what beautiful and unique designs they made!
For the rest of the week, we came off timetable slightly - we did our usual Maths and Phonics on Wednesday and Thursday morning, followed by Pantomimus, but we did not manage to get to balance bikes on Thursday afternoon because we had some very important "other things" to be getting on with (I will give you a clue, we had to crack on with our crafts ready for Sunday!). We did though, keep to Mystery Reader - the children get more and more excited each week, they really do squeal with excitement!
This week we welcomed Teddy's grandad into the classroom. He read 'Zog' and even brought 'Zog in with him. The children are growing so much in confidence and are not shy in talking to adults who are not that familiar to them, they are also getting better at listening and commenting on their favourite parts of the story in much more detail.
On Friday afternoon,we hopped onto the mini bus and headed up to St. Andrew's Church in Chaddleworth. We familiarised ourselves with where we will be sitting for the Easter service and even had a quick run through of our lines ready for next week - we think a few more goes at it over the weekend and we will have 'cracked ' it. It takes quite a lot of self belief and confidence to raed aloud in a Church service.
Finally, before we sign off for this week - a few reminders and big thank - yous
Next week is the last week before the Easter break.
Huge thank you as always for the generosity of the PTFA in organising all the gifts for Sunday.
Huge thank you to the very talented Mrs Bell, who crocheted all the labels for the gifts.
And finally a huge thank you to all of you who supported the PTFA.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend - especially those of you who will be spoilt on Sunday
