Term 5- Week 2 VE Celebrations

9 May 25

As we started this week on a Tuesday the week has simply flown by and we were delighted to see the return of the sun as we all came back after a lovely bank holiday weekend!

In RE this term we will be exploring how certain foods are eaten during certain times of celebrations, this week we explored the Jewish Festival Tu B'Shevat, the Jewish 'New Year for Trees' and learnt that during this festival they give thanks for seven 'foods' that grow from trees and either plant a new fruit tree or give money to plant new trees. We talked about what fruit can grow from trees and discussed how Mrs Brown has recently bought a blueberry tree for her own garden, we can't wait to try the blueberries when they grow!

We then got to paint our very own fruit blossom trees whilst enjoying the sunshine in our outside area!

Some of our Robins were so inspired by the Festival of Trees that they created their very own fruit blossom trees during free flow!

During our discussions about Judaism and the importance of celebrating new life that comes from the trees, one of our Robins then went and took some time to think about what the church means to her.....

It is lovely to see how our Robins are able to express themselves independently in so many different ways!

On Tuesday afternoon we took full advantage of the sunshine and enjoyed spending time in our outside area, from measuring magical potions, building creative constructions to problem solving with the ramps and cars, the fun was endless!

What ramp would make the cars go the fastest? Which car would travel the furthest? It was wonderful afternoon for some problem solving and Robins enjoys moving the ramps and exploring different ways to position them to get the optimum position for their car to be launched!

Throughout the week a lot of learning has taken place, from sorting activities in Maths, sentences in Phonics, writing the first part of The Gingerbread Man story, French, Music, outdoor learning etc etc. But of course the most fantastic day of the week was Thursday. Our VE day celebrations. Everyone looked amazing in their reds, whites and blues.

To start our day, the PTFA had organised a cake decorating activity in the hall, we then headed back into the classroom to learn at little bit about the significance of VE day which somehow led us into discussing the Royal Family and watching bits of the King's Coronation. We then spent of rest of the morning making cucumber sandwiches (I donlt know if you can see in the photos but rather than slice the cucumbers some chose to cut them into chunks - they made for very interesting sandwiches!), and finished our morning off by joining the nation in a two minute silence.

Then in the afternoon we held our very own tea party and we absolutely loved it!

What a very special day we had and what a day to remember.

Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday.
