22nd September

I am sure you often find yourself thinking “I wonder what my child is doing right now.” Well, we hope through reading our page, seeing all the photos and talking to your child about their day, you get some sort of flavour about what we get up to.

This week…….

As each week is passing, we are seeing the children become more familiar with the daily routines as well as more familiar with the classroom environment and where everything belongs. This week saw quite a change in the weather but we certainly did not let it stop us from doing all that we were looking forward to doing! Yes, it rained (particularly on Wednesday) so we simply put on waterproof trousers, wellies, coats and aprons and carried on with our outdoor learning – we now know that all the waterproofs are hanging up ready for us to access independently when we need them. Please can we ask that the children bring a pair of wellies to school, that can be left in school. We do have a few spare pairs donated from previous years so please let us know if you need a pair so that we can recycle them this year – please don’t go and buy a new pair!

Every morning when the children come into school, they place their ‘Feeling Flower’ in the flower pot to let us know how they are feeling, we do quite often get flowers in the sad pot and for genuine reasons too…..they are missing….. you (Mums, Dads and grandparents, with an occasional dog or cat getting a mention!). Every morning we also sing the days of the week song, months of the year song and check the all important weather forecast.

This week we started our daily Maths and Phonics learning – so exciting.

We learnt sounds s,a,t,i,p – we played games such as thumbs up, thumbs down – Mrs Langford said a sentence and if they heard the focus sound in the sentence they put their thumb up – e.g. listen for the sound ‘s’ – I went the  park – thumbs up or down? I went swimming – thumbs up or down etc. We also used our arms to sound talk (segment). On Tuesday 3rd October at 3.30 you (parents and children) are invited to our phonics workshop where we will talk you through our approach to phonics and reading, play some of the games with you and talk you through how you can support at home and of course – the ‘prize’ at the end of the session is that the children get to bring home their first reading book!

In Maths we were subitising – yes the children are learning new vocabulary, saying it, using it and knowing what it means – subitising is knowing an amount just by looking and not having to count.

Tuesday afternoon we were revisiting last weeks ‘cooking’ lesson, this week we became more adventurous with our topping for our rice cakes, some of us have not yet mastered the concept of less is more and the toppings were almost gravity defying.

We also engaged in some observational painting (Art) on Tuesday, this week we looked at sunflowers, wheat and corn in readiness for our Harvest celebration (October 10th – you are all welcome to join us as we will be performing our very first class act).

Wednesday, we were more than happy and confident to head into the hall for our Pantomimus (music) session with Danielle.

Thursday was our library session, we are really good now at using the vocabulary of title, author, illustrator, spine, blurb and flick test. Also,we now know that Robins love Yoga! We introduced Cosmic Yoga in our PE lesson last week and since then, we have been finishing off our day with a bit of Yoga whilst we dismiss the children, they absolutely love it!

Friday, oh how we all love Friday and next week it is set to get even better as we will be starting our Welly Walks. If you would like to join us on a walk one week, please do let us know so we can add you in to our plans. You will be most welcome.

So in summary our week is looking something like this...... (click image below)
