World Book Day Celebrations

Well - where did that week go - one blink and it was gone - just like that!

In Maths this week we consolidated our understanding of the composition of numbers by investigating the numbers within 7. Using the part-part-whole model we decomposed number 7 and Robins explored different ways to make number 7, using practical experiences of ducks on a pond to support them as well as making towers of 7 using 2 different colours.

"Mrs Brown 7 is made of 5 and 2"

"7 is made of 3 and 4"

Robin's have loved using the loom bands this week and have really thought about the pictures that they have wanted to create. We love the way they've started to use their knowledge of shape and space to plan and create recognisable images, great work!

"Mrs Brown look at my house!"

As the sweet smell of biscuit filled the air we had to remember that this week our delicious creations were not for ourselves but were instead for the special Mummy's in our lives and we would need to wait until next week's cooking club to enjoy the fruits of our labour! As we stirred, mixed and carefully handcrafted our heart biscuits we were extremely pleased with the beautiful pink icing that finished our biscuits off and know that our Mummy's will appreciate the effort that went into our cooking club creation this week. Mummy's, we hope you enjoy them!

On Wednesday we welcomed another Mystery Reader - this time it was the turn of Mr Blake. I could not quite tell who enjoyed it the most the children or Mr Blake! He started off by telling the children that he was feeling nervous - a few of them looked slightly puzzled, they clearly have no idea how daunting it can be sat in front of the class with all eyes on you and their expectations high! But there was no need to be nervous, the children were thoroughly engaged throughout and at the end, after a tough round of questioning, Mr Blake said he had enjoyed himself and would like to do it again - brilliant!

We have got two more weeks left of Mystery Reader this term (we won't run it on the last day of term as there are other things we will be getting up to - watch this space) and both slots are booked, however, as more of you are asking to take part the more we will run the sessions so we will continue it in Term 5 - don't panic, I have a note of who would like a go so you won't miss out....plus I know where you all live!!!!!

And then of course on Thursday - hardly needs an introduction, it was WORLD BOOK DAY. We welcomed......

* Queen of hearts - with homemade jam tarts for all of us - they were delicious

* The Snail and the Whale

* The main character - from the book Where's Harley?

* Elsa (x2)

* Alice in Wonderland

* Ariel the Mermaid

* Cinderella

* Matilda

* Stickman

* Harry Potter - Ravenclaw

* Batman

* Dinosaur

We started the day off with a whole school collective worship. We were also introduced to this year's entries for the Masked Reader, who was the Squirrel, who was Grandad, who was Cake, who was the Yeti??? It was so tricky to work each one out. Some of our guesses were right and some were almost impossible and we relied on the big reveal at the end - it was such fun.

Back in class, we got stuck in to some book related activities. In the morning, we listened to the story of Elmer and decorated our very own keepsake Elmer. In the afternoon, Madame Wilson came in and read us a story in French and then stayed in Robins for a little longer to help us decorate wooden spoons based on our favourite character in our favourite book.

We finished off the day with a book swap in the hall and a £1 book token given to everyone!

What a fun filled day!!!!

Friday morning was also another very busy morning - we don't want to spoil any surprises other than to say....be patient and just wait until Sunday! A little sneak preview will give you a little clue!

Huge thank you to the PTFA for organising a very well attended Crafternoon.

Have a wonderful weekend and see you all on Monday.

To all the Mums reading this - have a lovely day on Sunday (hope you all like sunflowers) - you deserve it!
