Term 1 Week 7

16 Oct 26
This week, I have something really exciting to share about Stig’s latest adventures!
He has returned with a personalised waistcoat, a flint hammer and plenty of stories to tell. WOW!

First, Stig stayed with Freya and she certainly kept Stig very busy! Together, they explored the woods and built a stick shelter to help him feel at home. They also made pizza, watched The Croods, visited the library and went roller skating. There was even a surprise encounter with Roman soldiers and the town crier!

When Sunday turned chilly, Stig was treated to a new waistcoat! Freya carefully embroidered his name on the back, and I am really proud of the stitching skills and patience she showed. What a thoughtful way to keep our little visitor warm!

Thank you to Freya and her family for looking after Stig so well and recording his adventures in his diary for us all to enjoy.

The following weekend, it was Leo’s turn to welcome Stig, and another busy adventure awaited! They watched Ice Age 3 and headed to the football pitch, where Stig helped Leo’s mum in goal. Leo scored so many times that he lost count, leaving the final result a mystery! On Sunday, they explored White Horse Hill before visiting Leo’s dad’s workplace, where Stig met some police officers.

Stig also returned with a special addition to his Stone Age toolkit: a hammer made by Leo using a real piece of flint!

I am really proud of the creativity Leo showed in bringing our Stone Age learning to life.

What a thoughtful gift for our little adventurer!

Thank you to Leo and his family for looking after Stig so well and filling his diary with photographs and lovely memories for us all to enjoy.

This week, we have proudly displayed the children’s brilliant diary entries inspired by Stone Age Boy! Writing in the first person as the boy, they recounted his encounter with Om and his adventures in the Stone Age, sharing his thoughts and feelings along the way. The children worked so hard, and it is lovely to see their finished writing taking pride of place in our classroom.

Well done, Owls! You should be very proud of yourselves.

Our prehistoric art journey has brought a little bit of the Stone Age into our classroom! Drawing on our exploration of cave paintings, the children created their own hunting scenes on textured backgrounds designed to resemble rough cave walls. They used earthy colours and dark outlines to depict animals and human figures, bringing together the skills they have been practising throughout the unit. Drawing on an uneven surface was tricky and helped them appreciate some of the challenges prehistoric artists might have faced.

I am proud of their perseverance, creativity and the individual details in each piece. Well done, Owls!

In RE, Owls explored why Christians call Jesus the Messiah, learning that both ‘Messiah’ and ‘Christ’ mean ‘anointed one’. We discussed how Jesus showed leadership through love and service, including washing his disciples’ feet, healing others and calming the storm. Inside their crown outlines, the children explained what Messiah means, how Jesus served others and why Christians call him a king.

Thank you to all the parents who attended Parents’ Evening this week. It was lovely to meet with you and talk about how your child has settled into Owls class, share their achievements and discuss their next steps in learning. We really appreciate your continued support.
