Term 1 Week 6
It has been another busy and exciting week in Owls Class.
Prayer and worship are an important part of our school day, giving us time to pause, reflect, and be thankful. This week during our class worship, we thought about what it means to live life in all its fullness. The children shared thoughtful ideas about kindness, gratitude, and creativity.
Evey said, “This week I have lived my life in all its fullness by looking out for my friends and making sure no one is feeling left out.”
Hollie said, “I have been living my life in all its fullness by making autumnal decorations using leaves, berries, and cardboard.”
Hollie also created a beautiful heart decoration using natural materials she collected which was a lovely reminder of how we can find joy in simple, creative moments.
In maths, we have started our new unit on addition and subtraction. We have been using number lines to help us add and subtract 1s, 10s, 100s and even 1,000s. The children have shown fantastic focus and teamwork as they explored how numbers change across boundaries. It has been brilliant to see how confidently everyone is using their place value knowledge to reason and problem solve.
During our maths lessons, the children also have regular opportunities to practise their times tables using Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS). We encourage parents to support this at home too, as even a few minutes of practice each day can make a huge difference to confidence and recall.
We have also been inspired by our class novel, The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. The children are completely captivated by April’s journey to the Arctic and her friendship with the last polar bear. To celebrate the story and encourage a love for reading, Miss Carter created a beautiful book display for our reading corner, featuring an Arctic scene from the novel. The items inside the glass display were kindly donated by Mrs Higgins, making it an extra special addition to our classroom. It has already sparked lots of interest, conversations and recommendations. Our reading corner has never felt so magical.
In English, we have been hard at work planning and writing our own non chronological reports. We began by identifying the key features of this text type and exploring the technical vocabulary needed to make our writing clear and informative. The children are now in the middle of drafting their reports and we cannot wait to share some finished pieces and photos next week.
This week, a group of our sporty Owls had the chance to spread their wings at the Year 3 and 4 Hockey Festival at Henwick Astro and what a day it was. The sun was shining, the energy was high and our players gave it everything they had.
From dribbling and passing to some seriously impressive shooting skills, the children tackled each activity with huge smiles and brilliant teamwork. It was lovely to watch them cheering each other on and growing in confidence with every round.
The best part was seeing how proud they were to represent our school. They truly embodied our school values throughout the festival.
A big thank you to Miss Brown for making it all possible and to our amazing Owls, who once again reminded us that sportsmanship and team spirit are just as important as scoring goals.
Next week promises to be just as exciting as we continue our non chronological reports and move forward in our addition and subtraction unit. Keep up the brilliant effort, Owls. You are flying high. We are so proud of how hard everyone is working and how supportive they are of one another.
