Term 2 Week 5

5 Dec 25

What a week we’ve had in Owls Class!

Monday morning set the tone for the whole week. It was a joy to see the children’s faces as they walked into school and saw how beautifully their classrooms had been decorated. The smiles, the wide eyes, the excited twinkle… it was the perfect start and the buzz carried on all day.

Owls Class have also been practising the hymns for the Christmas production. They are supporting Early Years and Key Stage One by singing throughout the performance and they have taken this responsibility with real pride. Their focus during rehearsals has been excellent. They have been learning the words, listening carefully for their cues, and singing with confidence.

Each rehearsal is sounding stronger and they should be very proud of the way they are helping to bring the whole production to life.

Maths Learning in Owls Class

Despite all the excitement of the Christmas production, we have also been doing a lot of learning in maths. Owls have started their new unit on multiplication and division and the children have been exploring grouping and sharing. They are beginning to understand how numbers can be organised into equal groups and they are building the foundations they need to become more confident with multiplication and division later on.

The children have shown real focus during these lessons. They enjoy using practical resources, working on the board, and talking through their thinking. We will continue to build on this understanding so that they feel secure and ready to tackle trickier calculations with confidence.

To support their learning, I would strongly recommend that the children continue to use Topmarks and Times Tables Rock Stars at home. Regular practice makes a huge difference to their fluency and confidence.

DT has definitely been one of the highlights of the week.

The children have absolutely loved their sewing lessons with Mrs O. They began by exploring different types of materials, feeling the textures and thinking carefully about which fabric would be most suitable for their bag designs. After selecting the right materials, they followed their design plans and began stitching their pieces together.

Sewing is a skill that takes patience and focus, and the children have shown both. They have been practising threading needles, securing stitches and keeping their seams as neat as possible. It has been lovely to watch them grow in confidence and take real pride in creating something from scratch.

A quick reminder for parents

With all the excitement this week, it is still really important that children continue to read at home and complete their homework. Listening to them read, asking a few questions about their book and encouraging regular practice makes a huge difference to their progress. Thank you for your continued support.

We will share more about our learning next week once the Christmas rehearsals settle and we have even more lovely things to show you.
