Term 6 Week 2

12 Jun 26

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever." Psalm 107:1

During Monday's whole-school worship, Mrs Munday introduced our Christian value for this term:

Thankfulness.

We spent time reflecting on what it means to be thankful and why it is important to appreciate the people and things that make a difference in our lives. We listened to the song 'Thankful', which reminded us to say "thank you" each day and to recognise the many blessings we have, both big and small.

The children shared thoughtful ideas about the people they are grateful for and the things that bring them joy. We discussed how thankfulness is not just about saying "thank you", but also about showing appreciation through our actions and kindness towards others.

It was a lovely way to begin the week and a reminder that taking time to notice the good things in our lives can help us develop a positive and caring outlook.

If you would like to listen to the song at home and continue the conversation about thankfulness with your child, you can find it here:

In English, we have continued our work on The Wind in the Willows. The children thoroughly enjoyed reading the story and exploring the characters, particularly the mischievous Mr Toad and his many adventures. The story led to some fantastic discussions about responsibility, consequences and fairness.

Earlier in the unit, the children took part in a courtroom debate where they considered whether Mr Toad's actions deserved a prison sentence. This provided the perfect opportunity for the children to develop their speaking and listening skills, present their opinions and listen respectfully to the views of others.

Building on this learning, the children worked incredibly hard to write a balanced argument entitled 'Should Mr Toad Be Put into Prison for 20 Years?' They carefully considered both sides of the argument before reaching a conclusion. We focused on using the Point, Evidence and Explanation structure to support their ideas and justify their opinions using evidence from the text.

Although many of the children found this writing genre challenging, I am incredibly proud of the resilience they showed throughout the writing process. They worked hard to organise their ideas, consider different viewpoints and support their arguments with evidence from the story.

Pictures of the children's fantastic work will follow once all of the final pieces have been completed and published.

The children have enjoyed this unit so much that I have included a link to the full film below. If you have the opportunity, I would highly recommend watching it with your child at home. The class found it thoroughly enjoyable and it helped bring the characters and story to life. It would be a wonderful way to continue the learning and share this classic tale together as a family.

In Maths, we have begun our new unit on decimals. The children have been learning about tenths and exploring how fractions and decimals are linked. They have used place value charts to help them understand the value of each digit and have worked hard to explain their thinking using mathematical vocabulary.

On Fridays, the children work with Mrs O and will be learning all about time. Being able to tell the time on an analogue clock is an important life skill and one that many children find challenging.

Any support you can provide at home would be greatly appreciated. Regular practice reading analogue clocks, discussing times throughout the day and encouraging your child to tell the time independently will help to build their confidence and fluency.

Pictures of the children's learning and examples of their work will follow soon.

There is plenty more exciting learning to come next week and I look forward to sharing more of the children's work and achievements in our next blog.

A reminder that our Junior Music Festival Concert will take place on Friday 19th June. Please ensure that you have read the letter that was sent out via Parent Communications, as it contains important information about the event, timings and arrangements for the day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

"Let us be thankful for the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." Marcel Proust
