13th Dec 24

What a week this has been. The children are well and truly ready for Christmas! The children have worked so hard so this week on last minute preparations so that they could perform their Christmas Nativity for you. We think you will agree, they were amazing! We hope that you enjoyed watching the show as much as the children enjoyed performing! Have a look at our photos below!

Despite our busy schedule of performances and rehearsals, we have still had time to enjoy other areas of the curriculum. Forest School has continued to be great fun despite the weather getting colder. The children are always so engaged in their learning. This week they were able to saw pieces of wood with support and turn them into a Father Christmas. A lovely souvenir of the fun that they have had this term!

In gymnastics this week some children proved to be real acrobats. We had the ropes out and the children practised various positions that they have worked on this term, for example, "tuck" and "pike". We are also getting much better at balancing and our forward rolls are really improving. Some of us even challenged ourselves to try doing a roll whilst holding the ropes!

In maths we have been comparing and ordering numbers and thinking about the phrases "greater than" and "less than". The children have also been using the symbols < and > to compare their numbers. For example, 43 > 21. This tells us that 43 is greater than or bigger than 21. The children have been told to look at the tens number first. If the tens number is the same, then they need to look at the ones. The children have really developed their understanding of ordering numbers going forwards and backwards. Going backwards from the greatest number to the smallest number is trickier. You could do some counting over the holidays and compare and order numbers going forwards and backwards. The children have worked with ordering three numbers - the greatest, the smallest and the one "in-between".

As we reached the final Friday of the term we could hardly believe what a magical week it had been! After Kingfishers and Robins had blown our socks off with their performances of the Nativity we were looking forward to our well deserved treat to end the week, what could it be that would be so fitting you may ask? Of course it was the one and only Cinderella Pantomime at the Hexagon in Reading with Mr Tumble/Justin!!!

As we settled down in our seats, the excitement building, we knew that we were in for a magical show, full of sparkle and songs to sing along to and boy did we do that! As the actors and actresses began we almost couldn't contain our excitement!

Some of our favourite characters were Buttons (Mr Tumble) and Nanny Gumdrop, "They were so funny Mrs Brown, I loved the bit where Nanny Gumdrop fell in the cream!", but we also loved "booing at the ugly sisters!". By the time the interval came we were ready for our ice-creams and couldn't wait to see if Cinderella would finally meet the Prince!

Cinderella has met her prince and it was time for a wedding and we were all invited! As we took to our feet, it was time to dance and what a dance we had!

When we got back to school there was just enough time for us to have our weekly show and tell sessions, which we were a little bit worried we wouldn't have time for!

This week we got to meet 'Candy' the candy cane eating unicorn who was bought from a very festive Christmas shop and even walks on her own!

Next we met Bingo the Puppy, who was busy eating his bone when we met him although we can forgive him because he is only 1 years old! He loves to drink milk and was bought for his owners 5th birthday!

Finally we got to see a Technic Lego car that had been built by one of our Kingfishers even though it's actually meant for children who are at least 7 years old! He even made it all by himself, it was a present from his cousin and guess what.....it even moves!! WOW!

Wow, what a week Kingfishers have had, from starting the week with the magic of the Nativity to ending the week with the sparkle of the pantomime! It has truly been a pleasure to spend time with Kingfishers, we hope they all have a well deserved rest over the weekend and look forward to seeing you all next week for the last week before Christmas!
