We can't believe that we have been back for two weeks! Where has the time gone? Once again the children have been very busy.

Forest school on Monday was great a start to the week! The children had the opportunity to use a hammer and nails to make their own spider web on a piece of wood. The children used the tools very sensibly. They also had so much fun playing in all the beautiful autumn leaves. They thoroughly enjoyed throwing them in the air and watching them fall back down.

For P.E. on Wednesday, we welcomed back Anita. She has worked with the children before developing their gymnastics skills. The children went over their skills of tuck, straddle, pike , bridge and doing a forward roll. A fun packed session was had by all!

In science on Thursday the children continued to think about their bodies. We worked as scientists gathering and recording data to see which was the most popular eye colour in Kingfishers. We collected the data in the form of a tally chart. The children enjoyed using the mirrors to see what colour their eyes were. All the children then created a bar chart. Ask your child what we found out from our results!

We could hardly believe that we had reached the end of our week again and this week we were in for a treat, it was Pudsey day! As a class we discussed what this truly meant and how this linked to our Christian Value of 'Compassion' and with a little help from Newsround we were soon really understanding the meaning behind this spotty bear!

As we put on our yellow ears and spotty clothes we already looked the part but thanks to some help from Key Stage 2 and Mrs Bell, at lunch time the hall was transformed into a crafting workshop, from Pudsey masks to finger puppets, the children simply loved coming in and donating a small amount to take part in a craft of their choice. Just look how wonderful they all looked!

We then donated all of the coins that we had left and stuck them onto our very own Pudsey! It took us quite a long time to stick them on and by the end he was REALLY HEAVY!!!

In Geography Kingfishers loved exploring aerial maps of the village and were all able to identify familiar places, from our school to the local park and for some of them even their houses! As we moved around the map, we discussed what the different symbols were on the map and what changed as we zoomed in furthered, what more could we see? We then started to discuss the difference between the houses and what type of house we lived in, can you remember which house you lived in?

  • Detached
  • Semi-detached
  • Flat
  • Bungalow
  • Cottage
  • Caravan

As we delved further into our own homes we started to discuss the area around our homes and using locational language (near to, far away, next to, right, left, in between) we described where our house was.

"My house is semi-detached. It is far away from Scotland"

"My house is near to the fields. It is semi-detached and far from London"

As Friday was drawing to an end we had time for our brand new Show & Tell! This week our first 3 Kingfishers stepped up and took the stage, two of them showing and one of them telling us something, it was lovely how much thought had gone into their shares this week.

From the hair eating frog which had been bought from the cinema, to tales of a new puppy and then finishing off with a whole box of fridge magnets collected over the years from places that his family have been! Wow what a special Show & Tell we have had, I can't wait to hear next weeks!

From all the staff in Kingfishers we hope that you all have a lovely weekend and we hope to see as many of you as possible at the Christmas Fete tomorrow between 12-3pm, it is truly set to be a very Festive afternoon!
