My goodness, what a busy week we have had! We can't believe it is almost the Easter holidays. This week in Literacy the children have continued learning the story of Handa's Surprise. The children worked with a partner to think of other fruits and adjectives that they could use when they write their own versions of this story. The children then used these ideas gathered to plan their own version of Handa's Surprise.

In maths, the children have continued to think about sharing, making equal groups and working out how many objects are in a group and how many groups there are. The children have learnt about the division symbol and what it means. We have also been thinking about our two times table and our five times table.

As you are aware, the children have been learning how to make moving pictures in design and technology this term. They have learnt how to make a picture move using either a slider or a pivot and a lever. This week they have designed their own moving Easter cards. They had some brilliant ideas! Next week they will be making their cards - you can look out for them at the end of term! We hope that you like them!

In PSHE we have been thinking about keeping ourselves healthy. This week we talked about the different food groups and how important it is to have a balanced diet. Our body needs to eat food from all the different food groups and it is ok to have treats as long as we don't have too many of them all in one go! The children helped sort different foods into the correct food groups.

Reverend Mike has continued to work with Kingfishers this week on their drumming. They are getting very good at following the instructions and keeping in time together with the different rhythms! Most of all, they are having so much fun and they are really enjoying these lessons!

Legotastic creations!

This week marked the last week of Lego week and to celebrate Kingfishers wanted to show what fantastic Lego models they made in our final session together!

In Money we continued learning how to count coins but also began counting notes! In Kingfishers every week we start by reminding ourselves what each coin was and putting them in order, can you name the coins and notes below?

Kingfishers are really coming on with counting money but this week we also having a go at some money problems. Why not have a go at the problem below?

In history we continued to explore the toys which Mrs Oberzole and Mrs Harris had kindly lent us, whilst exploring them we observed that most toys from the past were made from harder materials such as plastic, metal or wood, we decided perhaps this was so that they would last longer. When Kingfishers were asked what else they noticed about the dolls and the teddy bears from the past they made these comments;

“The doll had less things with it in the past, the new one had shoes and I have a dummy for my doll at home”

“The dolls from the past could do less things”

We also talked about what was the same about both of the toys, Kingfishers were fantastic at noticing similarities!

“Both of the dolls have moving parts and eyes…they are a bit creepy on the old one!”

"The bear from the present is softer than the bear from the past"

“The bear you can cuddle, even if he is old”

We all decided that whether a toy is old or

new the love for our toys remain the same

and they all have the same

purpose….to be played with a

enjoyed by those who own them!

In cricket this week, we continued to put our skills together, building on from last week’s throwing skills lesson and taking it a step further today by playing quick cricket, what a mouthful that is to say on a Friday!

As we were carefully put into our teams of 4 (and 2 teams of 6!), we were quickly explained the rules of quick cricket and soon we were picking up the first step to the game.....hitting the ball off the Cricket Tee and whilst the fielders went to collect the ball the batsman would run back and forth between the cone and the Tee, collecting points as they went! When the fielders had collected the ball and placed it on the white cone the batsman had to stop running!

The balls were soon flying across the field! With their accuracy growing Kingfishers were soon showing greater accuracy and the fielders were not only needing to spread out further but also needing to run a lot further for the ball!

The highest number of points gained in a single run was a massive 14!

We then moved onto developing out accuracy and further cones were put out to encourage Kingfishers to aim between the orange cones. If the ball went between the orange cones then each time they ran to the white cone and then to the Tee they would gain 2 points instead of 1!

It was such an impressive afternoon of quick cricket! It has been such a pleasure watching their skills develop in this sport, we have some true cricket superstars in the making!

As always our show and tell doesn't disappoint and this week we had 2 of our children who had never done show and tell with us before so we knew that it was going to be an exciting week not only for them but for us as well. What would they bring in to show us? We could hardly wait to find out......

First up we had a firm favourite of Dinosaurs! Our Kingfishers absolutely loves these creatures and had brought in a total of 13 to show us! We were treated to 3 of his favourites, the first up was a T-Rex, which had a moving mouth part! He is however only 2 years old!

We were then treated to the one and only Godzilla! He was rather frightening with all those spike along the back and is a staggering 44 years old! Our Kingfishers decided that both of these Dinosaurs definitely would eat meat!
Finally our Kingfishers favourite Dinosaur is a Triceratops, which has a hidden section that tells you what Dinosaur he is!

What super creatures we have met!

For our second show and tell we got to meet an old toy but also another creature, the one and only Pikachu!

This was found in our Kingfishers attic and once belonged to her Nanny, what a great link to our History topic of toys! Our Kingfisher was 6 years old when she acquired Pikachu and it's favourite food is surprising sushi!

We can't wait for more show and tell adventures next week!

Have a lovely weekend everyone and we can't wait to see Kingfishers next week in our final week of the term! Don't forget that on Wednesday we have our Easter service at St Andrew's.
