We can't believe it is the end of term. Where have these past few weeks gone? We have definitely lived life in all its fullness. Despite being the last week of term, we have been on a visit, had a visitor, been authors and we have been designers!

In maths we have been thinking about our two times table. We have counted in twos, shared amounts into two groups and we have thought about odd and even numbers. If you are out and about over the Easter holidays, can you find some odd and even numbers? Even numbers end in 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 whereas odd numbers end in 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9.

In literacy we had some amazing authors. The children wrote their own versions of the story "Handa's Surprise". It was lovely seeing the children add adjectives to their writing to make it more descriptive. We had juicy oranges, sour lemons, so many super ideas. Well done to all the children for their lovely stories!

In R.E. this term the children have been thinking about Jesus being a leader. To finish off this topic we invited Reverend Mike to school to talk the children about the work that he does as a leader. The children had lots of questions to ask him and they enjoyed finding out about everything that he has to do.

In design and technology the children made their own moving Easter cards which they had designed last week. Some pictures on the cards moved with a slider whilst other cards had a pivot and lever to make their picture move. The children followed their designs carefully, making any changes or improvements that they felt necessary as they went along. Once the cards had been made, the children evaluated them, thinking about what went well and if there was anything that they would do differently next time.

Have a look at the super Easter cards below. Which one do you think you will be receiving?

On Wednesday we visited St Andrew's Church in Chaddleworth for our Easter service. The sun was shining and the daffodils were beautiful. Spring was definitely in the air as the children performed their poem "Hello Spring".

We could hardly believe that we had reached the final day of the the Spring term! As we settled down to our morning there was a sense of excitement in the air, was it that we were all most certainly all ready for our Easter break? or could it be that distant sound of bunny hops that we could hear? ..........

With our handwriting session coming to an end, suddenly two fluffy ears appeared at the window!!! We could hardly believe our eyes, it was the EASTER BUNNY!!!!!

When would he come and see us? We could hardly contain our excitement! We managed to just about get through the register and all was calm again, we had our boards ready to start out Maths and suddenly guess who hopped through our door......

We were ready to go on our Easter peg hunt and what to pegs give you? An Easter egg of course! We had to search far and wide, up and down, over and under!

Just look at how much fun we had!

Kingfishers had the best time on their Easter hunt, we most certainly heard lots of squeals of excitement and the Easter Bunny even did a little dance for us when we found a peg! What a great Easter experience to share together.

After so much fun with the Easter Bunny it was time to return to our Maths and this week we continued with money but once we had finished we got to complete an Easter themed colouring challenge!

This week in History we were in for a treat! It was time to put all our knowledge of toys into practice and make our very own toy from the past.....a cup and ball!

We gathered up all of the resources that we needed;

  • a paper cup
  • string (with a knot at the end)
  • a piece of tin foil
  • coloured pencils

Then after Mrs Brown had shown us how to make it Kingfishers had a go themselves and with only a little help they were soon creating their very own old fashioned toy!

In our final cricket lesson we were taught how to play Diamond cricket, which looks exactly like it's name, a diamond! With 4 stumps positioned in a diamond, the team who was batting needed to stand by a stump each and then the person by the stump with the tee would hit the ball and all batters would run clockwise to the next stump whilst the fielders went to retrieve the ball and return it to the tee! A player would be out if the ball was returned to the tee before they made it to the stump!

It was great to see how far all of Kingfishers have come with their cricket skills across the last half term!

To end our day we were in for a treat, we had two visitors from Red Kites who had come to visit us this afternoon after writing stories based around the ducks that have been hiding around the school!

Kingfishers listened in awe to the stories, wondering what would happen next to the ducks! It was so lovely to be part of such a

school community experience with our Red Kites able to celebrate their achievements with us and Kingfishers so impressed by their wonderful imagination. Once they had shared their stories with us it was time for some questions!

"What made you write the stories?" Red Kites told us that they had been set a challenge!

"What gave you the ideas for the stories?" We were told that one of Red Kites have pretend ducks at home so found inspiration in this for his story!

"How long did it take you to write the story?" This is what she said....."We had about an hour to write it"

This simply blew our socks off!!!

We couldn't believe that so much writing could be achieved in an hour!

We would like to thank our Red Kites for sharing their stories with us and have asked for them to come back again and share more stories with us in the future because we loved it!

What a busy week we've had, full of Easter celebrations and Easter surprises! Kingfisher staff wish all of Kingfishers and their families a very happy Easter, enjoy the sunshine and making lots of memories together!

We can't think of a better way to end the day than to wish our Kingfisher a very Happy Birthday!

Happy Easter everyone!
