What a busy week it has been and the children have coped so well despite the heat! We started our week looking at a fact file about a ladybird in literacy. This linked in with our science work on habitats. The children read the text and found out about the different parts of a fact file. There is the heading, an introduction, sub headings or questions and bullet points with facts under each question. The children then went on to find out about the Great Fire of London and they started to make a mind map about what happened. They will use this mind map to create a fact file about The Great Fire Of London.

In maths with have been thinking about tally charts and data tables. The children started off looking at a picture. The recorded what they could see by using a tally chart. We thought about how many of each item there were in the picture. They then had a go at drawing this information. We then thought about how the information from a tally chart can be put into a table. Finally we carried out a whole class investigation to find out what the most favourite colour is in Kingfishers. Can you see from our results which colour was the favourite?

In art, the children carried on creating their Great Fire of London pictures. This week they added the buildings to their background. We talked about the buildings creating a "silhouette" on the pictures.

We think you will agree that their pictures look very atmospheric. The different shades of orange that they mixed helped them create some super looking pictures!

In science we continued to think about habitats. We went to see if we could find any ladybirds in any other microhabitats around school compared with where we found them last week which was in a bush near Red Kites. This week we found some more ladybirds in different bushes. The bushes obviously create a perfect microhabitat for the ladybirds. The leaves definitely provided shelter for the ladybirds from the sun!

PSHE was an important lesson this week. The children were learning about water safety. The learnt how important it is to stay with a grown up when they are near water and to check for dangers before entering the water. They also learnt that if there is a problem when they are at the beach, the coastguard can be contacted by phoning 999. The children also had a go at making a starfish type of shape by lying on their backs on the grass. If they get into trouble when in the water, it is a good idea to float on their back in this shape and remain calm rather than splashing around.

Happy Friday everyone!

After a scorching hot week we were certainly ready for a slightly cooler Friday and with the sun still shining we were ready to take on the day! We started the week with our handwriting and free writing, with Kingfishers yet again blowing Mrs Brown away with their progress from week to week! They were particularly impressed this week by how much our picture reminded them of Rascal!

Some of us even started to create a story around the picture!

This week why not imagine that you have been on a trip to the beach below.....

Write a postcard to someone saying what you can see on the beach!

What would the weather be like?

What would you eat?

Who would you go with?

We were lucky enough to be treated to three show and tells this week, with our first linking really nicely to our writing home challenge this week!

Our Kingfisher had certainly been busy at the beach finding these wonderful shells, alongside her brother, Mum and Dad who had helped her! Her Mum had also helped her turn these lovely shells into necklaces! When asked if she had a favourite our Kingfisher was very eager to share with us which one it was....

Our second Kingfisher sent in an amazing video of him helping out around the house to complete DIY jobs and to be honest this is really putting it mildly as it truly put Mrs Brown's DIY skills to shame! For those fans of Nick Knowles amongst us, he would have been proud of our Kingfisher, it was truly inspiring and we can't wait to share his video with the rest of the school during worship on Monday!

For our final show and tell we had to all take a step back and make way for the army plane! As our Kingfisher put his plane together and showed us around the aircraft we were show how the pilot who had been hiding inside could comfortably fit inside the cockpit and if you pressed the buttons there were sound effects and lights that started coming from this MEGA aircraft! We learnt that this was a present that had been bought from an Army Museum and we all loved it!

After another exhausting Daily Mile and game of rounders in the sun we could hardly believe that we had reached the end of the day and also the end of another week!

Next we have a few exciting events happening....

On Tuesday we have our Sports Day (Wednesday our provisional sports day) so please see below the information below:

We are really keen to welcome everyone to sports day so please do join us if you can but please ensure you have read the 'expectations for visitors on site' which has been emailed out to you all and that you complete the google form to let us know that you will be attending.
