Well, how this week has flown by! We can't believe that next week the children will be performing in the Christmas Nativity and the week after that we will break up for Christmas.
Preparations are well under way for the Nativity. We have been practising the play, learning the songs and trying on our costumes. The children are trying so hard and they are very excited about performing to you all next week!
Please can we remind you that if you were asked to provide a costume, this needs to be in on Monday as we have our dress rehearsal early next week. If you have any problems sourcing the required items of clothing, please let us know.
As you are aware, Year 1 and Year 2 each visited The Vale and Downland Museum in Wantage this week. They went to find out about how a Victorian Christmas would have been celebrated. Can your child remember how different the Christmas decorations were in the Victorian times compared with what we have today, particularly on the Christmas tree? Can your child also remember what colour clothes Father Christmas use to wear in the Victorian times? The carols that we have been learning came in useful when we were carol singing. The children were accompanied by an accordion and bells. It sounded lovely! Finally they made Victorian inspired Christmas cards which they will bring home shortly... We would like to say a huge thank you to the staff and volunteers at the Vale and Downland Museum for our wonderful trips! We are all now feeling very festive!
This week we were also very lucky to have one of our P.E. lessons lead by a sports specialist teacher from Park House again. This week the children had great fun participating in boccia, seated volleyball and curling.
We have also been designing our Christmas biscuits in design and technology. We will be making these the last week of term. In science we have been thinking about materials being transparent, translucent and opaque. The children carried out an experiment with different present wrapping materials to see which would be best to wrap up Christmas presents with.
After such a busy week preparing for our Nativity and going on our Victorian school trip we could hardly believe we were already at Friday, and what a Friday we were about to have!
As we entered the classroom, our morning wasn't going to be quite the same, was it time for another Nativity run through I hear you ask? Well no not yet! Kingfishers were instead in for quite a treat this morning, as Mrs Brown has entered a race against the clock to see if we could be 1 of the first 3 schools to contact Razzmataz back to receive a free 1 hour performing arts workshop with them and we were delighted to find out that we were.....

So what exactly did this mean? Well for our Kingfishers it meant that we were lucky enough to receive an hours drama workshop with a specialist drama teacher from Razzmataz who came in on Friday morning and themed our workshop all around the Victorians!
They say a picture says a 1000 words and we could agree more....
We first of all had to get ready for our journey back to the Victorian times!
However before we could travel back we had to find the key to the magic cupboard! Where could it be?
We'd found it! Now it was time to pppppuuuuulllll the door open, it was very stiff but we finally managed to open it!
Oh no we were going to miss the train........ALL ABOARD!!!!
Once we were back in the Victorian period we travelled across different areas...
From factories, where we learnt about how the machines would have been powered and the horrible working conditions!
To travelling back in time to Victorian schools, where we learnt that we would have been sat in rows and recited maths facts each day!
We then travelled to a rich Victorian house where we learnt that we would have been looked after by a Nanny and then when our Dad came home we would have had to stand straight and answer him very politely, "Yes Sir"
Some of us couldn't help but have the giggles!
Oh no it was time to go and catch the train.....ALL ABOARD!
What a great experience we had with Razzmataz and we even got a little gift to end out experience with a free session to take away with us!
