Welcome back to the final term. Where has this year gone?

The week started off with Year 2 being introduced to their focus text for the next few weeks. The text is called "The Pirates Next Door" by Jonny Duddle. We read the story as a class and we found out what some of the words meant. We then wrote some sentences using these words.

In maths, Year 2 have continued to think about time. We have gone over quarter to and quarter past. We have also been continuing to learn how to tell the time to five minutes. For example, five minutes past six or ten minutes to twelve. Please support your child / children with telling the time at home. This will really build up their confidence.

In science Year 1 and Year 2 have started to think about the seasons. We started off with the children working in groups to share their ideas of what they know about the seasons.

On Wednesday afternoon Year 1 and Year 2 had a very creative afternoon. They evaluated their sculptures and they were introduced to our new design and technology project which will be making a puppet. The children evaluated a range of puppets - hand puppets, finger puppets and a marionette. We discovered that the hand puppets were made from softer fabrics and we decided that this was probably because we have to put them on our hands.

As we enter into a new term we also move onto a new topic within History, however this time we begin by exploring events within our 'living memory' and start by asking....

What significant events can we remember?

For some of us our memories came flooding back, from holidays that we'd been on to the day we'd met our friends at Preschool! We even remembered special times we'd shared with our families, watching films together on Halloween, such as 'Up' and meeting our pets for the first time! However for some of us it was a little bit harder, we could remember recent memories but those beyond this year were harder for us to remember.

Next week we will discussing what is meant by a significant person, from famous people to important people in our own lives and we will be choosing a significant person in our own life (who isn't famous!) to say why they are significant to us!

Why not start thinking about who your significant person is going to be!

Why do we have rules?

In RE this week we started to discuss the important of rules and why we have them. We began by exploring the different types of rules that we have in different places such as at home and in school, discussing how not everyone will have the same rules in their house.

In pairs we then explored our school rules and discussed the reasons for each of our rules, writing down why we have each of them.

It was interesting to discuss why we thought each of the school rules were there, with the children working in pairs they showed determination and lovely partnerships skills to discuss their ideas.

"If we're respectful then we are polite to everyone"

"If we work as a team then we can share our ideas and get the work done quicker"

We even thought of our own school rule!

"Always make sure you tidy up after yourself"

Important message for next week's Jigsaw lesson

In Jigsaw this term we are exploring how we change as we grow up and this week we got to explore some of Mrs Oberholzers photos from when she was a child and look at how she has changed as she has grown up!

We are asking for Year 1 and 2 to bring in one photo of themselves from when they were 2 years or younger for next week's lesson. Please ensure this is brought in a named envelope with their name written on the back of the photo so that we can ensure the photo is kept safe. All photos can be brought in at any point next week and handed to class teachers who will keep the photos safe ready for their Jigsaw lesson next Friday!

Thank you for your support!

We hope that you all have a lovely weekend, please remember to write any reading opportunities that you share together in your child's reading record and ensure their reading books are in school everyday so that we can read with them in school and change their books.
