We can't believe week 3 has come to an end already. This week the children have enjoyed a special science activity on Wednesday to link with science week as well as all our normal activities!
In Literacy Year 2 were introduced to some more vocabulary from our story "The Pirates Next Door". We talked about what the words meant and then we had to decide if they were a noun, an adjective or a verb. The children also sequenced parts of the story this week.
In maths, Year 2 have learnt that there are twenty - four hours in a day and that you get two of each time in a day. For example, 8 o'clock in the morning and 8 o'clock in the evening. We have now finished our topic on time but please keep going over this with your children. Over the summer holidays is a great time to practise this in preparation for Year 3.
In science we have continued to think about seasons. We have been thinking about what clothes we would wear in each season. Year 1 enjoyed working with a partner to see how many different items of clothing they could come up with for each season!
On Wednesday we were all excited to separate into our house groups for our 'Egg drop' science experiment! With £100 monopoly to spend it was an exciting morning of designing and constructing, who could protect the egg and ensure that the egg didn't crack when it hit the ground?
It was wonderful to see our Year 1's and Year 2's working so well not only together but also with children around the school to come up with ideas and also adapt those ideas as the morning progressed!
What a fantastic way to celebrate science week!

When we returned together in the afternoon we continued to explore the religious rules- The 10 Commandments and it was impressive to see how many of these our children remembered.
Today we discussed how we were going to sort the rules into those that are easy to follow and those which are harder to follow, beginning with...
"Respect your parents"
This rule led to some interesting discussions.....
"I think it's easy to follow because my Mum and Dad are a team and I always let them both put me to bed and listen to them"
"I don't think it's easy because I want to do things that Mummy and Daddy don't let me and that's not fair"
This led to a discussion about how even though we might find it difficult sometimes to follow the rules and agree with people all the time (even if they are our parents), this doesn't mean we can't show them respect.
We talked about what showing respect means;
To show someone kindness
To show someone you care
To recognise what they do for you and showing appreciation for this
Demonstrating good manners
Helping out with daily routines
In the end we all agreed that whilst we may not always find it hard to follow rules, showing respect is something that we should all be doing all the time.
It was almost the end of the middle of the week but there's always time for our Daily Mile....
What a perfect way to end our Wednesday!
This week, Year 2 have also been thinking about water safety. They have thought about safe and unsafe situations around water. They have also found out about the RNLI and the lifeguards. We have talked about ringing 999 if we need help around water and what we would say if we had to ring 999 if there was a water emergency. Finally, the children have found out about what to do if they did get into difficulty in the water. They need to float on their back like a starfish. Can your child remember this? There is more information about the RNLI "Float To Live" campaign online.
Finally, a quick reminder. As you are all aware, next Thursday is Sports Day. Please can we ask that your child comes to school wearing their P.E. kit. Please can you also ensure that your child has sun cream on before they come to school. Your child will also need a water bottle containing water and a sun hat. Finally, please can we ask that your child wears appropriate footwear - trainers, not astro trainers. Thank you for your support with this.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
