3rd July '26

Where has this week gone? We've had a workshop, it's been sports day and we have started making our puppets!

On Tuesday Year 1 and Year 2 were lucky to take part in a workshop about food from the field to the plate. The focus was on cereal crops. The children learnt about the life cycle of wheat, they milled some flour from the wheat and they planted their own wheat to take home. The children also found out about which cereals are in different foods. Great fun was had by all!

This week Year 2 have started making their puppets. They had to decide if they wanted to use a big or a small puppet template depending on the size of their hand. They cut out their template, drew dots around their template on the felt to get their puppet shape and then they cut the shape out. Year 1 will be able to do this next week. The children used a lot of perseverance, especially when they had to cut the felt out!

It was time for sports day take 2! After the heat caused us to cancel our sports day last week, we were more than ready for sports day when it came this week and we couldn't wait to get started! As we moved into our houses, we spent time creating banners, flags and posters that we would use in the afternoon to cheer each other on.....

We were soon ready for our morning activities!

From the goal kick to the archery, bean bag toss to the long jump, there was an activity for everyone! It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved and experiencing new activities and developing skills, with some particularly impressive skills being shown!

As we headed into the afternoon we were excited to run the races that we had selected! This year was the first year that the children had been given the choice of which races they could run and it gave them real ownership over their sports day. Here are just a few memories from the afternoon!

Although Arlington took the cup this year, the real victory came in the form of the perseverance we saw throughout the day and the compassion shown across year groups, because sport is about believing in yourself and your team mates, never giving up and knowing that it's the taking part that makes us stronger for next time!

Next week is meant to be another warm week so please remember to ensure that your child has a hat, water bottle and applies sun cream before coming to school. Please also remember to make sure your child brings in their reading books every day with their books being check on a Thursday, ready to change Friday morning.

Have a wonderful weekend!
