10th July '26

This week has flown by. The children really have been "living life in all its fullness". The main focus for this week has been continuing with our hand puppets. Year 1 and Year 2 have added details to their animal puppets and we have started sewing them. Have a look below, they are looking great!

In science Year 1 and Year 2 studied data about daylight hours and how it changes with the seasons. They discovered that in the middle of winter the amount of daylight hours is almost half of that in the middle of summer. This made us think about the different activities we can do in an evening when it is winter and summer. In the winter we might have a hot chocolate and read a book after our evening meal but in the summer we might go for a bike ride!

In Literacy Year 2 have been writing their own pirate stories. They have been based in Great Shefford. What amazing ideas the children have had! Ask your child about what happens in their story...

Despite the temperatures this week we have been so impressed with how both Year 1 and Year 2 have managed their learning and continued to demonstrate our behaviours for learning, we would like to say a huge well done to all of the children for persevering and demonstrating true compassion to each other!

On Thursday we had a quieter and calmer afternoon in class before PE with Coach Tom, which was also a far more relaxed session than our regular PE sessions! In class we talked about the attributes, memories, favourite things and people that make us who we are and created a small piece of art to represent this...it was truly a chilled afternoon with a little bit of mindfulness mixed in!

With our water bottles filled and hats on, it was then time for Coach Tom to continue to develop our tennis skills, starting off by throwing a beanbag and seeing if we could hit the cones, then progressing to using a racket and a ball to practice hitting the ball in the cooler area of the back field. Why not have a go at home practicing your child's sending and receiving ball with a racket and ball?

The temperatures are set to continue to be high next week so please do ensure that you are sending your child in with a full water bottle that is a suitable size (not too big and not too small....as Goldilocks would say- Just right!), apply sun cream before they come to school and a hat- we have noticed a few of these missing this week and would really appreciate your support in ensuring all children are able to be out safely at playtimes.

As next week is our final full week at school we will also be sending home their school books that they have been busy using this year! To help your child could you please send them in with 2 carrier bags ready to start bringing their books home....

Thank you for your on-going support, we look forward to an exciting 7 more days in Year 1 and Year 2!
