Autumn 1 Week 6
This week has been a lovely and busy week in Kingfishers. We have certainly noticed that autumn has arrived, with the weather becoming much cooler. Please ensure that children bring a coat to school each day and that all items are clearly labelled.
At Forest School, we enjoyed exploring spider webs and learning about the natural world around us. The children had great fun creating their own spider webs, making conker necklaces and crafting spiders. Can you spot the spiderweb in the picture below?
In Art, we began creating our own night sky backgrounds inspired by the famous painting Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. We are looking forward to adding the finishing touches to our paintings in our next lesson!
Our classroom has been buzzing with futuristic energy this week during our Free Write as the children began crafting their very own robot stories! Blending scientific curiosity with boundless imagination, our young authors have been busy dreaming up incredible mechanical characters—ranging from helpful, chore-busting sidekicks to misunderstood toys, left alone in the bustling city.
This Free Write is doing a fantastic job of developing their sequencing skills and descriptive language, and we cannot wait to see where their adventurous imaginations take these metallic friends next week!
Our waterproof enquiry!
Our young scientists have been busy investigating the properties of materials this week through a hands-on waterproof testing experiment! Armed with pipettes, water beakers, and plenty of curiosity, the children put a variety of everyday items—including plastic, fabric, paper, and foil—to the ultimate test.
They loved making careful predictions, observing whether water pooled on top or soaked right through, and recording their results like real researchers. This practical investigation has been a fantastic way for the children to develop their fair testing skills and scientific vocabulary, and they can now confidently tell you exactly which materials are best for keeping us dry on a rainy day.
Our school turned into a bright sea of sunshine this week as the children wore yellow to support World Mental Health Day! Participating in the national #HelloYellow campaign run by the youth charity YoungMinds, our pupils and staff swapped items of their regular uniform for vibrant yellow clothing and accessories to show solidarity and raise vital funds. The main goal of the day was to send a powerful visual message to our students that they are never alone with their feelings and to help open up vital, child-friendly conversations about emotional well-being.

As we head into our final full week of the autumn term, we want to wish all of our families a wonderfully restful weekend! The crisp autumn air and colorful falling leaves provide the perfect backdrop to recharge after what has been a incredibly busy and productive few weeks of learning. We encourage all of our pupils to take some time to unplug, enjoy the autumn season, and get plenty of rest so they can return on Monday ready to finish the term on a high note. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a fantastic week ahead!
