What a weird week for weather! Let’s hope the sunshine comes back soon.

In Maths, we have started to explore fractions; focussing on denominators and numerators first. The children have got a great understanding so far so next we will move on to mixed numbers, improper fractions and adding or subtracting fractions. This week in English we were able to complete our persuasive texts. First we worked together to research different topics such as orcas, deforestation, plastic pollution etc. Next we planned exactly what we wanted our reader to know and what they needed to do to help. Then finally yesterday, we put all this hard work together and wrote some amazing persuasive pieces. As always I was very impressed with their independent writing.

In History our learning question was: Why were the Maya so successful? We interpreted pictures to see what we could learn about them. By the end of the lesson the children found out that they made their own wells to catch rain water, used terraced farming on steep hills, had access to limestone (a great building material) and had a hierarchy to keep everything in order. RE was all about the 10 plagues unleashed on the Egyptians because the Pharaoh would not release the Israelites. The children were fascinated and intrigued to find out which plague was next! Science focused on magnets again. This time we explored what happens when the south magnetic pole and the north magnetic pole are near each other and when a south magnetic pole is near another south magnetic pole. We also used iron filings to look at the magnetic force around a magnet.

In Art we have nearly finished our rainforest pictures. We have taken our time but I think they look fantastic!

Have a great weekend.
