What a fantastic week!
We have been very busy with our learning. In English, our focus has been explanation texts. Looking at the features; the way it is organised and the language used. We used adverbials of time and subordinate clauses to help order a process and looked at how pre and post modifiers can improve the text too. Our spelling focus has been the suffix ‘ous’ and looking at how the base word needs to change or not change when we add it. We will be sending home the year 3 and 4 common exception words. It is important that the children practice them weekly – looking at 5 each week.
In Maths we have been looking at times tables and how they relate to each other. We found out the 6x tables are double the 3x tables and the 9x tables are triple the 3x tables. We have been chanting, dancing, singing and playing games. As part of homework the children now have a times table booklet to complete. Just like the other Maths booklets, they need to complete 1 double page each week, returning every Wednesday.
In Geography, we have been learning all about rainforests. Last week, we found where they are located using atlases and this week we explored their climate. In Science, we used food to create the layers of the Earth’s surface – starting with the inner core, outer core and mantle (strawberry sauce), the Earth’s crust (biscuits), bedrock (banana), subsoil (chocolate pudding) and finally the topsoil (oreo cookies). We had great fun layering the food but even more fun eating it!
In Computing, we used PurpleMash to create animations with backgrounds and sounds. We even managed to use the onion skin tool to help make our animations more accurate. In PE, we used our learning about the rainforest climate to create movement phases.
Of course I need to mention this afternoon! After all of Owl’s hardwork, we have filled our pom pom jar and the children voted to have a film afternoon in comfy clothes with popcorn to eat. We loved watching the original film ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’.
Have a great weekend.
