What a week! We have been very busy in Owls.

In Maths we have been recapping 2D shapes. We focused on their properties and using the correct vocabulary to describe them. We were able to name the 3 main types of triangles, different quadrilaterals and understand what a polygon is. The vocabulary we used included parallel, equal, right angles, straight, sides, vertices and curved.

Our last Science lesson was all about reflection. The first thing we discussed was what reflection is. Then I asked how could we test if materials were reflective or not. The children worked hard to come up with a great investigation that was fair and easy to carry out. After testing the materials we realised the classroom should have been darker to make it an even better test but we did find out that smooth surfaces were the best at reflecting the light.

This week in Computing we were coding. First we needed to make a character move, then we needed to make an object disappear and after that we tried to get our 'turtles' to draw shapes. For the final lesson everyone had code that was not working and they had to debug it. The children worked really hard together to solve some tricky coding algorithms.

We had two different art projects this week. Our canopic jars are taking shape. We just need them to dry so we can paint them! On Wednesday afternoon, the children were given animals to paint. The focus was to practice mixing different colours and painting neatly in small areas. I think they did a great job!

And finally, today we had an amazing time at Cotswold Wildlife Park. We didn't quite get to see every animal but we enjoyed a fabulous talk about the giant tortoises, the emus and the colobus monkeys. We talked about classification and the different groups the animals belonged to. After our talk we were able to visit lots more animals - the cabybara, meerkats, penguins and otters were firm favourites with the Owls. Of course we managed to eat lunch and enjoy an ice cream too. Thank you for helping to fundraise so we could enjoy such a great day.

Have a great weekend.
