21st March

Assessment week has been very busy! The children have worked so hard to show off exactly what they can do. I am very proud of all of them!
In English, we have started to explore and look at the features of setting descriptions. Previously we have struggled to use enough descriptive techniques so that will be our focus for this unit of work. In Maths, we continued to work on fractions. The children were able to add and subtract fractions and are beginning to find different amounts of numbers too. We were also able to shade in fractions of shapes where the number of parts were not the same as the denominator.
We are coming to the end of our Science unit this term, but today we had an important enquiry question to answer: Can a magnetic force be blocked? The children were given a paper clip and magnet. They then designed what material they wanted to test to try and answer our enquiry question. We found out that a thick piece wood blocked the magnetic force from the magnet, but a thin piece didn’t so we concluded that a magnetic force can be blocked.
In History, we thought about the hierarchy of the Maya civilisation and what it was like to live in Maya times for different people. We looked at pictures and discussed what we thought their life would have been like. Today we started our Design and Technology unit. Today’s task was to explore and evaluate chocolate bar wrappers and we were able to pick out what made them appealing to consumers. In PSHE, our conversations were centred around hopes and dreams. The children shared what they would like to be when they grow up and how that dream made them feel. It was great - we have some very ambitious children!
Have a great weekend.
