25th April

What a great three days back in school. I hope you had a great Easter! It’s been lovely hearing all about the holidays and activities the children have been up to.
We got straight back into learning mode by exploring newspapers. We looked at how they are structured and what language features we will need to include when we write our own newspaper reports. Maths was all about tenths! We learnt about them as fractions by ordering them and representing them. Then we moved on to looking at tenths as decimals and comparing them to the fraction representation.
Geography was all about land use in the UK and Great Shefford. We explored the six main land uses and looked at maps to identify how some land is used in areas of the UK. We even traced over Great Shefford and labelled the land use here. In RE our learning question was ‘What is authority?’ We had lots of discussion and moved on to who has authority for us. The children were able make connections between authority and what people in authority do for us. At the end, we drew pictures of authority figures in our lives.
In Science we started our plant unit. We recapped what plants need to grow and be healthy and then used this information to plan our own comparative test. The children decided to take one requirement away and compare it to a plant that was given all the requirements it needs. We will observe over time to see what difference there is.
In PE, coach Tom helped us to practice our sprint running by starting down low and running as fast as we could to the cone. We also enjoyed some fun games of coral reef tag.
Have a great weekend.
