27th June

What a lovely week! The Owls have worked incredibly hard.
In English, we have moved on to writing instructions by looking at their features, creating an introduction with rhetorical questions and writing detailed steps to follow. We also explored the use of pre-modifiers and quantifiers in our list of materials and ingredients. By the end of the unit we will write a set of instructions to make a potion. In Maths, we are still telling the time. This week we explored am and pm and looked at telling the time on a digital clock. Please encourage your child to tell the time at home.
In RE, we found out about parables and the lessons they teach us. This week we focused on The Good Samaritan and the message of being kind and supportive to people. In History, it was all about invasion! We looked at how the Hyksos and Nubian people invaded Egypt and took over most of their land. After 10 years, the Egyptians grew their army and fought back. The children were able to talk about consequences of what happened. We later learnt that Ramses II took over in the New Kingdom and Egypt went from strength to strength! Next week we will find out how the ancient Egyptians fell.
We have started to look at canopic jars in art. We researched what they look like, what is in them and what the different heads on the lids mean. Next week, we will design our own and following that make one. Please bring in a tube (big enough to make a canopic jar) and newspaper.
PE was all about rounders! The children were able to practice their batting and fielding skills with coach Callum. Some of the children even managed to score rounders by hitting the ball with a rounders bat instead of a tennis racket.
Have a great weekend. We hope you enjoy the Summer Fete!
