6th December
Rehearsals for our Christmas Carol concert are well underway. Please encourage your children to practice their lines and the songs as much as possible.
In between rehearsals we have also been working hard on our learning in class. In English our focus has been the toolkit for writing the best portal story we can. We have explored and written descriptive similes and used prepositions to tell the reader where and when something is in relation to another thing. On Thursday the children had the chance to show off their writing skills by writing a diary entry based on Billy our main character. The writing was incredible! Next week we will keep looking at the structure of a portal story and begin to plan our own.
In Maths we are making great progress with adding and subtracting. The children have been given one and two step problems that they needed to solve. We have also had the chance to explore the relationship between the 2 and 4 times tables.
Now we have our design brief set, we were able to start designing what pictures will go on our decorations and where the light up part will be in Design and Technology. In Geography, the children were able to use the 8-point compass to follow and give directions. Light is still the focus in RE. We have explored Hanukkah, Advent and Diwali – thinking about the symbol of light in each festival.
I’m afraid we got the vinegar out in Science again! This time we were testing rocks and their properties – how durable were they? How strong were they? How permeable were they? How hard were they? The children worked well in teams to find the answers to these questions. Next we will think about which jobs we could use the different rocks for.
Have a great weekend!
