7th March

This week has been full of sports! Well done to all the children who took part in the football and rugby tournaments this week. You did us proud.
Yesterday was world book day and the children looked fabulous in their costumes and comfy clothes. We spent the day exploring the poem ‘The Sound Collector’ and had our first sneak peek at our new books. It was great to see so many children ‘reading their own way’!
In English this week we have continued to build our toolkit for persuasive writing. We focused on commands, subordinating conjunctions, adverbials of certainty and degree and writing facts and statistics. We researched and copied the facts and statistics, but then tried to improve the paragraph by including conjunctions and adverbs. Our next step is to research and complete a whole text to persuade our reader to support a cause of our choice. In Maths, we worked hard to crack division! All the class worked incredibly hard to use drawing to solve some tricky divisions. Next week we are moving on to fractions.
In Science, as part of our forces and magnets work, we have started to work with magnets. This week was all about finding magnetic and non-magnetic objects. My car keys were very popular to test. In History we used the atlas to find where the Maya people lived. We discovered they were situated in parts of modern day Mexico, Belize, Honduras, El Savador and Guatemala. After this we thought about when they were alive and built a timeline to show the exact dates of the pre-classic, classic and post-classic periods. In RE we continued to learn all about Passover. This week, we focused on the Seder meal and plate – thinking about what foods are eaten and why. In PSHE, we thought about the words 'perseverance, positive attitude and resilience' and what they meant to the children. Next week we are going to link these ideas to our dreams and goals.
Have a great weekend!
