8th November
Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a great half term.
All of last term we had a focus on handwriting in Owls – We want as many children as possible to be consistently forming letters correctly, writing on the line and writing in a decent size so we practiced a letter a day. Now we have finished the alphabet we will move on to joins. The children are keen to start using handwriting pens so when they consistently write neatly in all lessons, I will give them one. The improvement in everyone’s handwriting already has been incredible. I am very proud.
This week in English we have started to analyse recount letters in preparation to write a letter to you about our trip on Tuesday. This week we added two new spellings to the previous list from half term. We just need to add two more before the test on Monday 18th November. In Maths we tackled adding and subtracting over boundaries this week (for example 149+7 or 561-80). This is an important step before we try the column method and using concrete and pictorial methods really helped us to master it. Thank you for your continued support with the Maths homework.
In the afternoons we have finished our learning about the Stone Age, which will be concluded with our amazing Stone Age experience on Tuesday. Our next step is to write a non-chronological report about what we know. Now we have completed our cave paintings, we have moved on to DT. This term our aim is to design, make and evaluate a Christmas decoration. We started this by looking at electrical systems – inputs and outputs. Science was extremely exciting this week – we needed to answer the enquiry question ‘Which drink will cause the most tooth decay?’. We placed hard boiled eggs into tea, vinegar and cola and we are going to check what happens over a period of time. For observation one, we spotted that the cola had cracked the egg and the vinegar egg had gone very soft. I wonder what will happen next?
Reminder – Tuesday we are going on our Stone Age experience to Brightwalton School. Please can the children wear school uniform but warm jumpers and coats can also be worn over the top. Don’t forget wellies or trainers need to be brought in too.
Enjoy your weekend!
