11th September

What a great first full week back.

In English, we have started to explore the tools for writing a setting description. Our focus was expanded noun phrases, relative clauses, fronted adverbials and descriptive sentences. We have enjoyed reading our novel 'Letters from the Lighthouse' by Emma Carroll too. In Maths, we have deep dived into place value. We have explored values of digits, partitioning, Roman numerals, negative numbers and ordering and comparing numbers. In Science, our topic is 'Living things and their Habitats' and we have started to find out about mammal's characterisitics and their life cycle. In History, we discussed the causes of World War II and the Battle of Britain; focusing on why we are able to defeat Germany. PSHE was about goals and what we want to achieve by the end of the year. In Computing, we learnt about networks and used a tennis ball to show how data moves around a network for certain jobs. In our two PE lessons, we completed different types of rolls in gymnastics and enhanced our passing skills in football. For RE we found out about Gandhi and the good things that he did in his life.

Please ensure homework is returned every Friday (or before if it gets finished). Year 5's to complete workout 1 for each book and Year 6 complete the first test or workout for each book.

The Year 6's have been asked to write a speech if they would like to be House Captain this year (they do not have to). They need to inspire their audience - talking about our values, our behaviour for learning and why they would make a good captain. The speeches will happen on Friday 25th September and the results will be revealed on Monday 28th September.
