Welcome to Red Kites, Barry! (The stick insect!)

This week, we have welcomed Barry, the stick insect to our class. He has a dedicated group of leaders to look after him and is being carefully handled everyday. The children have shown a great interest and are already taking great responsibility.

In music this term, Red Kites are learning to play the pBone (trombone). The children thoroughly enjoyed their first lesson of the year, learning how to put their new instrument together and getting used to the slide. In a few weeks, we hope to be able to send these home for extra practice.

For our first Key Stage Two Worship, we joined with Owls to re-share the story of Jesus Calms the Storm. The children held a great discussion around the moral of the story and what the storm could represent. Children took time to reflect on whether they have ever had to 'calm a storm'. Together, we sang and took a moment to reflect on on ourselves as courageous learners.

In English we have focused on using descriptive language as we continue to work towards creating our own myths. Sometimes we stumble across unfamiliar words. Together, we have agreed how beneficial it is to use a dictionary to grow our vocabulary bank and feel more confident in understanding a range of words. The children are continuing to enjoy our class novel Who Let the Gods Out? We are doing a range of quiet and shared reading and I can already see an improvement of fluency and intonation across the class. This is a great reflection of the reading aloud that is happening at home. Thank you to parents for continuing to support your children's reading fluency and comprehension.

As a group we have agreed that in order to stay focused in class, we need to keep distractions to a minimum. The children have shared that when we work together as a team, we can all succeed and enjoy ourselves more. Please refrain from bringing personal belongings and objects into school in order to make sure your children have the best chance to concentrate and focus and immerse themselves fully in school life.

Please remember to hand homework in on Monday and keep reading daily. I look forward to meeting with you all next week at parents' evening.

Have a wonderful weekend,

1 week to go until Culmington Manor Residential!
