12th December
What an incredibly busy week! Well done to all the children for singing and acting so wonderfully in our Christmas Nativity. Today, we also had fun wearing our Christmas jumpers.
In English this week, we have been focusing on setting descriptions. We have started to read an amazing book: Malamander by Thomas Taylor. It has inspired us to start to think about the tools for setting descriptions: colons for a list, participial adjectives (verbs acting like adjectives), time adverbials for the backstory, cohesion within and between paragraphs and using the senses to create a vivid picture for the reader. Next week, we will look at how to end a setting description and plan our own. In Maths, our fraction work has continued. We continued to order and compare fractions but also to add and subtract them. Yesterday, the denominators were different so we had to find the common denominator before adding!
This week we had the pleasure of welcoming Rev Mike and Matt to help us with our RE lesson. We learned more about the nativity story in the Bible. Did you know that houses in Bethlehem at the time of Jesus' birth had space for animals downstairs? And no donkey is mentioned in the Bible! For DT this week, we learned what a design brief is and we interviewed our clients to create a design specification for our final project. The Robins were very helpful and had lots of great ideas for what playground equipment they'd like us to design! In History, we are moving through the Ancient Greeks timeline and this week our focus was on chronology, using King Phillip II’s building of an army and consequent battles as our focus. We were able use the dates to create an accurate timeline of events. In Monday’s PE, we had a go at indoor caving with Mr Mandry! It was trickier than we thought and we had to use lots of core muscles to manoeuvre our way through the tunnels! Level 4 was especially challenging!! In Computing, we have finally made our games. After thinking about sprites, scenery and mapping out our worlds, we put it all together to create games that can be played. They are fantastic!
This afternoon, we met with our houses to discuss and make Christingles. The house captains were amazing at supporting and leading the other children.
Have a great weekend.
