What a wet week!

To start the week, we led Monday whole school worship. It was our chance to share all about the residential. The children did a great job using the powerpoints that they had created.

In Maths, our learning on statistics has continued – this week our focus was reading and interpreting tables, bar charts, timetables and pie charts. In English, we have focused on different sentence structures to help improve our written work. To help improve our speech punctuation, we also completed a recap lesson about all the rules for using inverted commas. This week, we have also had some opportunities to complete some free writes; some wrote fantasy stories, others write recounts and we even had some new recipes written. Next week, we will plan and write our own traditional tales to read to the Kingfishers.

To start our Geography unit – The Americas – we used the atlases to locate different countries in North and South America. In RE, we thought about the statement: “A mosque is essential for Muslims to feel part of the Ummah.” After lots of discussion the children had to decide if they agreed or disagreed and explain why. In PE, we applied our fielding skills from last week to a match. We thought about tactics and how best to get our opponent out. For PSHE, our focus was respect; why we need it and what it looks like in school. In Science, we started our light unit. This week was all about how light travels and next week we will explore reflection as part of Science week. We also had our last Forest School session this week, which was filled with laughter and building. Ready for your trip on Monday, we completed a lesson on William Morris this week too – we found out about his life and what kind of art he did.

Some of the year sixes passed their level 2 in bikeability. Well done!

We are looking forward to our trip on Monday; please ensure your child(ren) wear full school uniform. No leavers hoodies please. Also a little reminder that children should not be bringing in toys and belongings from home unless previously discussed with myself or Mrs Chrimes.

Thank you for all the efforts to bake some treats for cake bake sale. Thanks to all your efforts we have made enough to purchase the costumes and some props.

Have a lovely weekend.
