Great Shefford Flood Alleviation Site Visit
On Monday we learnt about the causes and impact of flooding. We looked at the Environmental Agency planning maps for Great Shefford and developed our map skills by working out what each map was showing. On Tuesday Susan came to speak to Red Kites about previous flooding in Great Shefford and the dangers of flooding. She helped explain what to do in the event of flooding.
On Wednesday we covered road safety information to ensure we were safe walking to and from the site including crossing the road safely using Stop, Look, Listen, Think!
On Thursday Ash from Bam Nuttel and Susan from the Environmental Agency spoke to the children about the flood alleviation scheme in Great Shefford showing a range of pictures outlining each step of the process for this project. We then walked down to the site and were lucky enough to go on site to see the construction. It was a great visit and a brilliant opportunity for the children. They came away inspired and some may even pursue a career in civil engineering and quantity surveying!
A big thanks to Ashwin and Susan and the team.
The children have prepared and planned their non-chronological reports which will be published here in next week's blog post. Keep your eye out for the Chaddleworth Parish Council newsletter as we hope to publish one in there too!
Thank you for your ongoing support and help in reminding children of uniform and behaviour expectations.
Wishing you a restful weekend, 4 days until half term!
