What a lovely week full of sunshine.

In Maths, we have been exploring position and direction – translation and reflection. We have also mastered plotting co-ordinates in all four quadrants. In English, we have continued to build our tools for a writing a fantasy narrative; this week we looked at cohesion in paragraphs, different sentence types for effect and how to write a good plot. Next week, we will plan and write our own stories.

In History, we have mapped out the timeline of the Vikings. This week we focused on why and how they took over 3 of the 4 kingdoms in Britain. Because the weather was so lovely, we went outside to act out the Vikings invading the different kingdoms. Unfortunately, poor King Edmund, leader of East Anglia, had to die. I wonder what they did next? In RE, we discussed the purpose of a mosque. We discovered that they are not just used for prayer, but also for raising money, having gathering such as weddings and for education. In PSHE, we brought together all our healthy me learning to create an informative poster for others. For Science, our enquiry question was ‘What is the function of blood?’ We completed lots of research to find out what blood does and then to help us remember the different elements of blood, we made some using food, pom poms and paint. Next week, we will focus on blood vessels. In Computing, we put all our coding knowledge together to program an object to do something, such as move. The children were very good at creating mini games or scenes.

In DT this week, we have been learning more about inputs and outputs in robotics. We used the Bee Bots to put our learning into practise, creating a challenge for our group and writing an algorithm to complete it. Lots of de-bugging had to happen in order for our robot to successfully complete the challenge! In PE, we have been honing our skills in dodgeball and rounders. We've practised throwing at a moving target and using a feint to put off the dodger! We've also been practising catching a ball while moving so that we can get a member of our team that was "out" back "in". In rounders, we've been practising which throw to use this week. We used under arm throws for short distances and over arm throws for long distance. The fielders also practiced being in a good position to receive the ball.

On World Book Day, we started a project – to write our own version of ‘The Jolly Postman’. We worked collaboratively to create a part of the story with an envelope, that contained a letter, map, recipe etc. We then put the pages together to make a story that flowed – The Midnight Postman. It’s finally been bound and is being sent off for a competition. We are so proud of the effort the children put in.

Have a great weekend.
