28th November
Another busy week full of assessments.
For assessments over the last two weeks, the children have worked incredibly hard; showing perseverance, courage to tackle trickier questions and a have a go attitude. Their writing in particular was amazing because they tried to include so many of our new tools in each piece they had to do. We are very proud of their efforts and now can’t wait to explore winter poetry next. In Maths next week, our fraction learning will continue.
In PE on Monday, the children were practicing their skills of stacking cups and on Thursday our tag rugby training continued. Some of the children are showing a real passion and skillset in their rugby playing. For History, we thought about cause and consequence. Our focus was the invasion from the Persian Empire and how the Greeks fought them back. The children had to look at specific events and discuss what the cause of them were and then what the consequence was after it happened. PSHE was all about bullying and discrimination. The children had deep discussions and were given scenarios to think about. In Music, as well as continuing to learn how to play the trombone, we have been very busy practicing our Christmas Carols ready to perform to you on the 10th and 11th December. In Science, we concluded our unit on classification by going back in time to where it all began; Aristotle and Carl Linnaeus. We found out that because Aristotle did not have many resources, he only had three groups; land animals, water animals and air animals. After this Carl Linnaeus was able to use better resources and created six new groups; mammals, birds, fish, insects, worms and amphibians. Over time, as more discoveries were made and better equipment enabled scientists to make more accurate observations of living things, this system has been developed into the groups we use now to classify animals. Next week, we are looking forward to classifying insects at Oxford Museum of Natural History.
Have a great weekend.
