30th January
This week we've really lived life in all its fullness, with so many people coming in and leading sessions for our class!
On Monday, we had a brilliant Forest School session led by Mhairi. She brought in some toy birds which we had to spot, talked to us about the RSPB Big Birdwatch and brought in binoculars so we could try our hands at birdwatching. One group even build a hide! Mhairi also brought in equipment for whittling and yarn for crafting. Look at some of the wonderful things we made!
On Wednesday, we had another fab cricket session with coach Penelope, who introduced us to several new games. We loved 5 Bat Cricket and Queen/King of Catching. Who will be able to knock Erin off the top spot next week?
On Thursday afternoon, we had a group from WeSET visit to run a Comic Co Creation Sustainability workshop. We discussed renewable energy, using resources sustainably and choices we can make for the benefit of the environment and community around us. We were then tasked to come up with a comic - including a sustainable hero - in our groups. The collaboration was incredible and our visitors commented on how engaged everyone was, how knowledgeable they were and how well they worked together. The comics produced were fantastic and featured heroes such as Walter the World and Sustainable Pip. Look how well the finished projects came out!
In amongst all our visitor-led sessions, we've also been working hard writing dream narratives in English, showing off all the writing skills we've learned this year. We've learned how to multiply fractions by integers in maths (we're all so good at this - ask us a question and see!) and we've learned about the advantages and disadvantages of living near volcanoes in geography. In Science, we presented our results from last week’s investigation: How much force is needed to move a shoe across different surfaces? After that, we wrote a conclusion to summarise what our results told us. We found out that the rougher the surface, the more friction so more newtons were used to move the shoe. The wet weather this week was perfect for our art lesson, because we're looking at reflection, so we had the opportunity to go outside and sketch reflections in the puddles! We also did a watercolour mountain study in preparation for our final pieces inspired by Turner's watercolour work. Watch this space!
Have a great weekend.
