What a fantastic first week back!

In English, we started our week by recounting our residential – we were able to consolidate all our previous tools. Then we introduced our new text – the three little pigs. Again we used all of our previous tools to retell the story. There were some fabulous stories written! Today, we focused on the big bad wolf and explored lots of different vocabulary we could use to describe him. In Maths, our new unit is statistics and this week has been all about the line graph. To start, we learnt and practised how to draw them; focussing on the scales and what they should be. Next, we used line graphs to answer some questions that involved reading the data.

To end our History from last term, we completed our double page spreads on ‘The Anglo-Saxons’ and/or ‘The Vikings’. We had books and iPADS to complete some research and make lots of notes and then we created some stunning and informative double page spreads. In Computing, we used PowerPoint to create our whole school worship, which we are leading on Monday. We wrote about our residential – what we enjoyed and what we were proud of. After that, we inserted pictures of ourselves completing the activities at Grittleton House and changed the background.

On Thursday, we were treated to a STEM workshop with Mr Edmondson from Eko. We learned about some STEM careers, looked at what different jobs entail and had a go at working on a group projects with different roles for us all to play, like Engineer, Financial Analyst and Product Designer. Once we'd designed our product, we presented it to the rest of the class, with our Project Managers taking the lead. Everyone showed how well they can work in a team and they were even able to earn raffle tickets for examples of good behaviour and collaboration to enter a prize draw at the end of the session!

In forest school, with Mhairi this week, we were focussed on making memories. We were lucky to have some tiny duckling visitors to the pond during the afternoon, which was an absolute highlight!

Everyone was busy with their chosen activities, and we had tree climbing, den making, swing hanging, as well as putting up a hammock, "cooking" in the mud kitchen, creating a bug hotel and making yarn-wrapped memory sticks. Some of us even had a go at mixing charcoal paint to create a footprint tunnel to see if any hedgehogs come to visit our forest school area during the week. We've left it out with some tasty cat food (thank you to Mrs Farrant) and hopefully next week we'll be able to see if we had any visitors! Next Monday will be our last forest school session of the year, so please make sure you've got suitable clothing and footwear so we can all enjoy the activities suggested to Mhairi for our final session!

This week, we also completed our auditions for the end of year play: Mystery at Magpie Manor. The children were fantastic at acting out little scenes – Mrs Chrimes and I were very impressed. Some children also sung snippets of songs, because some of the characters have to sing. We thought they were very courageous, especially the children who stood up and sung solo. They will come home with their parts today – it was a very hard decision because they were all so good!

On Monday, year 5 took part in bikeability and passed their level 1. Year 5 also got the chance to present their projects, which were all about saving the planet, to the year 6.

Next week (Thursday 11th June), to help us fund raise for our end of year play costumes, we are running a bake stall. Please can the children bake and bring in cakes, biscuits, cookies etc on Thursday 11th to help us raise the money. Some of the children have also volunteered to help run the stall after school.

Have a great weekend.
