What a fabulous first week back!
In English this week, we planned our own setting descriptions and then wrote them. We tried really hard to include senses descriptions, figurative language and adverbials. Our use of punctuation is definitely improving and the children are putting in a lot of effort. Once we had finished our setting descriptions, we moved our attention to writing our double page spread about the Ancient Greeks. We focused on research for a couple of lessons and how to take useful, efficient notes. Then we created informative, well-presented non-chronological reports. Next week, we will be working on creating an exciting plot for a narrative based on Malamander by Thomas Taylor.
For Maths, we have finished our fraction unit; we can now convert fractions between improper and mixed numbers, add and subtract fractions and find common denominators. Next step is all about division.
In Geography, we started our unit on Mountains, Volcanoes and Earthquakes. Today was all about mountains; answering the question: How are mountains formed? We used the vocabulary such as converge, fault lines, tectonic plates and formation. Lots of diagrams and labels were used to show our understanding. In RE, we thought about how Christians celebrate growing up; our focus was communions and confirmations. For Science, our new unit is 'Forces'. We used paint blobs, water bottles (of the same size and shape) and cartwheeling to explore gravity. In PSHE, we had lots of discussions about celebrating differences and discrimination. Everyone was able to create a poster with an inspirational message about our topic. Our first forest school session was a chilly one but it didn't deter us! Everyone wrapped up warm and we still managed to create dens, swings, put up a hammock and engage in lots of other nature-inspired creativity! Thank you to Mhairi and Mrs Farrant - we love Forest School! In cricket, we were practising catching the ball and we are looking forward to even more skills learning next week.
Have a great weekend.
