Friday 17th May
It has been lovely to be back in Robins this week, with all the children eager to share what they have been getting up to from trips to the wildlife park at the weekend to performing on stage! From busy weekends to nonstop week days Robins are always eager to take on the next learning adventure and this week they have continued to enjoy spending lots of time in our outside area.
On Monday the children explored making Mrs Brown cups of everything from blueberry to chocolate tea that they reminded her was "so so hot! so make sure you blow it!", made dens using the crates and enjoyed playing follow the leader where they couldn't quite decide whether you were allowed to overtake or not but in the end decided that it was best not to!
Drip drip went the rain.....
Unfortunately we didn't quite have the wall to wall sunshine that we have been enjoying recently but we decided to embrace the rain showers and learn a poem all about rain this week, learning actions to go with it!
Here are some of our favourite parts of the poem....
"I love the part about the flower drinking the rain"
"I like the part when the rain is like a stream"
It has been wonderful to see the progress that Robins have been making with their writing and this week we have continued to write the story of the Enormous Turnip. We continued to explore the tricky words within our sentence, taking these away to allow the children the opportunity to write these independently and then getting the children to have a go at writing the whole sentence independently which all the children did extremely well!
In Maths this week we continued to develop our confidence with odd and even numbers using a bus as a tens frame to support the children with understanding the concept of each person on the bus needing a partner for the number to be even.
The children also independently choose to play a dice game where they said whether the number was odd or even as they rolled the dice, showing increasing confidence in odd and even numbers within different situations. On your journey to school why not see what numbers you can spot? Are they odd or even?
This week, Year 6 children started and finished their SATS assessments and as a school, we could not have been more proud of the resilience, perseverance and dare I say enthusiasm they showed. Well done Year 6 - you have been amazing role models.
With the SATS over with, it won't be too long before we say 'Goodbye' to the Year 6 children as they leave our school and start their learning adventures in their secondary schools. But,year after year, as one cohort leaves another arrives and this week we welcomed all the Great Shefford Under 5 children into our Robins classroom for the afternoon. Not all of the children will join us in September but they all came along for the experience. We can hardly believe that this time last year, it was our current Robins popping over for a visit - where has that year gone?????
The children were absolutely delightful, they were engaging and full of business - huge thank you to Denise and her team for spending a wonderful afternoon with us.
Then, having welcomed some children from next year's cohort, it was time for this year's Robins and Year 1 Kingfishers to spend some time together, getting to know each other and building relationships.
We also managed to fit in our weekly welly walk and Mystery Reader.....another thank you - this time to Thomas and Emily's Dad who read Oi Dog.
Have a wonderful weekend and see you all on Monday
