TERM 4
Welcome to Term 4 - lets dive straight in!
As we started the new term, Robins were excited to learn that the focus of our Monday PE sessions would now be Dance. They absolutely loved developing their awareness of space, themselves and others as we moved around the room to music and then selected our own actions in response to movements! It was lovely to see how eager all the children were to have a go at moving in a variety of ways from bending our knees, twisting around to shaking our whole bodies!
Please remember to either come dressed in your PE kit and bring your school uniform in your PE bag or come in dressed in school uniform with your PE kit in your PE bag - PE kit will then remain in school all week until Friday.
This week in Maths we continued to explore activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting, also revisiting the idea of cardinality that the last number in the count tells us how many things there are altogether. We explored lots of different ways the children could hear and join in with counting sequences and become more secure with their counting skills, using Ellie the Elephant to help us!
On Tuesday the children absolutely loved making a museum for the numbers 5,6,7, and 8 where they had to sort different representations of these numbers and then have a go at making different representations themselves!
"Mrs Brown my fox has 8 legs!"
As the smell drifted across the room, it could mean only one thing...it was Tuesday cooking club! This week the choice was a popular one as the cocoa powder was brought out of the bag and the recipe was revealed....concrete chocolate! The name might not have sounded as appealing as the picture looked but the element of chocolate in our recipe certainly didn't deter the children's enthusiasm!
As we measured and mixed the ingredients, at one stage we weren't too sure if it was soil or chocolate, but the smell made it clear that it was chocolate we were making and we were soon ready to press down our creation and put it into the oven to bake! The smell was scrumptious but as we always say the proof is in the taste!
The new term brought a new face to the school. This week we met Rev. Mike who came in to lead Worship. He asked us to think about something that makes us really special, something that perhaps only we can do that not many other people can do……have a think about yourselves - what answer would you give?
He also introduced us to ‘teaspoon prayers’ - when following a recipe teaspoon is abriviated to 'tsp' and Rev. Mike explained that when saying a prayer we might like to think of saying thank you, sorry and please (tsp). We have placed reminders on our prayer tree in class.
Then on Wednesday (the build up was intense)...it was "I wonder who", also known as Mystery Reader. I don't think anything I type can convey the excitement and atmosphere that this simple activity generated throughout the whole day. The children were pleading with us to give them clues, they kept asking the time and how long before the reader arrived….they could not wait!
Mrs Bell added to the suspense, she announced over the walkie talkie that the Mystery Reader had arrived at the main entrance and was being signed in – well the children were squealing by this point – and then at last, the moment arrived and in came this week’s Mystery Reader.
Thank you Mr. Bell for reading a really funny story "No Bot – The Robot with no Bottom", it is not a book we currently have in class but it is certainly a book we will be purchasing! We are already looking forward to next Wednesday and can't wait, the questions have already started....I know who is coming in next week and so does the person (who I hope is reading this) but nobody else knows!!!!!!
Thursday we stuck to our usual routine of Maths, Phonics, Worship with Kingfishers where we discussed our new Christian Value of Friendship and listened to the story of Zacchaeus the Tax collector, Library, Show and Tell with Kora and Lola - both girls did a fantastic job and entertained us with photos, a ukulele and a robotic dog! We also had French with Madame Wilson and our Balance Bike session. On Friday though, we shad a slight change to our usual routine. We checked the weather and decided that perhaps it would be best to take our Welly Walk in the morning - so we did just that.
We headed over to the Post Office to pay in the money that was raised during our recent Number Day. We had not pre warned the village shop that we were on our way, we arrived unannounced and yet Kamal was delighted to welcome us into the shop all in one group even though I did suggest smaller groups, Kamal was more than happy for us to descend all at once. Huge thank you to Kamal, he engaged with the children and put them at ease straight away, greeting all the children and accepting the money they handed over with a warm smile and a little chit chat and then to top it all off as we were saying goodbye Kamal gave us a bag of sweets to share on our return to school.
Before signing off we just want to say have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.
