Term 5 begins
Before we dive into Term 5....yes Term 5, can we draw your attention to this workshop that is taking place on Monday in the school hall. No need to book a place - if you think it will be helpful to you, simply join us Monday morning - there will be biscuits, cakes, teas and coffees - take some time for a catch up and chat and pick up some really helpful tips and advice!
Term 5
(sorry....another request before we get going - if anyone has any newspaper please could you bring it in on Monday - we only need a small amount to make some eco friendly seedling pots and also we would like a family photo - see the paragraph about PSHE below).
Right here we go....Term 5
And just like that the Summer term has begun! We can't quite believe how fast the time has flown and as we enter the Summer term, we are all looking forward to enjoying our outdoor learning, hopefully this term, with the sun shining!
In Maths we have been focusing on securing and developing our counting skills with a key focus upon developing our confidence with different counting strategies, including which ones we can use when counting a larger number of objects, including those that cannot be moved.
The children even made their very own counting wands, which they used whilst counting a set of objects and discussed strategies that could support them such as placing the objects in a line and counting along the line.
We certainly saw some magical counting with our wands this week!
In Talk for Writing, Robins heard and mapped out The Enormous Turnip story. We have begun to put actions to the story, and have sent the story map home so that Robins can begin to practice retelling the story (the story map is in with the reading books).
Robins then wowed us by putting their knowledge of the story into their writing and began writing sentences to go with the different parts of the story. They are becoming increasingly confident when writing tricky words and using their phonetic knowledge to have a go at writing new words, well done Robins what a great start to the Summer term!
As we eased into Tuesday the children were excited to hear what we were making in cooking club this week and were even more excited when they learnt that it was cupcakes!
This week each child was given the responsibility of an ingredient, it was their job to identify what ingredient they had and then add it our mixture, after all the ingredients had been combined Robins loved scooping the mixture into their cupcake cases and were excited to taste their cupcakes once baked!
In Jigsaw (PSHE) we began talking about relationships and who we had in our family. Jigsaw Jenny loved hearing about all the different family members that we have within our homes but also, about those who don't live with us. To support Robins with our Jigsaw lessons this half term, we would love for the children to bring in a family photo on Monday 22nd April for us to share with Jigsaw Jenny. We look forward to seeing all of their photos.
Throughout the rest of the week we carried on with our 'usual thing'......Mystery Reader (Mr Withers), French with Madame Wilson - learning about frogs and of course doing what we do best - learning through play (not even the rain stopped us - we found a way to overcome that hurdle!).
Finally, have a great weekend, weather looks good. Remember Forest School Monday - weather looks not so good - be prepared to get muddy and make sure you bring old clothes - you are going to have so much fun.
See you Monday
