TERM 1 WEEK 1
We made it through our first full week.
We are pretty sure that at the end of the day one of your first questions to your child is "Have you had a nice day, what did you do?"
We are also pretty sure that the answers are "Yes", "nothing" "can't remember" or "just played".
Over the year, through this page, we will tell you about most of the things that happen in their day and yes, they do play but it's not just play, it's learning through play, they just don't realise it and that is the best way to learn - by making it fun! Please look at this page with your child and then hopefully, they will start to tell you a lot more about their day.
Lets see what we learnt this week.
What an amazing first full week at school Robins have had!
Little by little they are being introduced to new routines that will soon be part of their everyday experiences at school. From hanging coats up on the right peg, bags in the basket, ordering lunch, message books in the message basket, feeling flowers in pots and straight into a morning activity, all within the first five minutes of coming through the door.
Feeling Flower pots
Of course there are lots of other routines happening throughout the day, people to meet and places to be. We have joined three whole school worships this week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), a joint worship with Kingfishers (every Tuesday) and a class worship (every Thursday).
We have also enjoyed fruit, milk and talk time, reinforcing manners such as taking turns saying please and thank you and what the children look forward to the most - the washing up (there is a rota so they take it in turns and everybody will get a turn).
One of the most important things that we will focus on this term is developing fine motor skills, making sure we exercise all the tiny muscles in the hands in readiness for holding a pencil correctly and mark making. You will see (and hopefully hear) lots of rolling of play dough, picking up little items with tweezers, stretching loom bands, cutting and lots more.
In preparation for the upcoming Newbury Show (we are hoping to display some of the children's art work),the children had a focus on our local environment looking at apples and pears that had grown on our fruit trees. We started to learn a poem called 'Falling Apples' and put some actions to it.
Here is the tree with leaves so green.
Here are the apples that hang between.
When, the wind blows, the apples will fall.
And this is the basket to catch them all.
The children then had the chance to use their cutting skills that they have been developing this week. They drew round a stencil of an apple or a pear and then they cut it out. They also added a leaf which they cut out and a stalk. We now have some lovely looking autumn fruit to hang up!
Next week, we will continue with our art and will also introduce a few more routines and new learning to our week, including Phonics and Maths. It's going to get even more exciting.
Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday.
