TERM 5 WEEK 4
I don't know about you but the Bank Holiday really threw me! We started the week on Tuesday and all week I just felt one day out.
So let's talk about things we learnt this week - starting with PE on Tuesday.
Balance Bikes - I only had to say the words and there were so many squeals of excitement. They got dressed into their PE kits faster than any other week, helmets were on and we were wheeling the bikes onto the playground - a quick safety talk and they were off - there is no better way to learn than by literally getting back on the bike! It was also really tricky to take photos, as soon as they got the hang of it, they were going quite fast. One or two were a little nervous to start but they soon relaxed and found their confidence. This week we did simple circuits of the playground, next week we will be weaving in and out of cones and negotiating space.
We also enjoyed another Mystery Reader session. Again, thank you for volunteering, without you there would be no 'buzz' and "mystery". We are full now for this term and have started filling spaces for next term so don't panic if you have not had a go yet - there are still some weeks to fill.
In RE, we have been discussing stained glass windows and we have had a go at making some ourselves. This week, we headed up to the Church in Great Shefford and took a closer look at the windows - we were in awe of some of the pictures, the colours and surprisingly how peaceful and calm we felt when looking at them.
In Maths, we started off the week reinforcing correct number formation. We will be revisiting this every day for the next few weeks and you may wish to support this learning at home too.
We also started thinking about 3D shapes. We learnt their names and we talked about the shapes of their faces. We also had a go at rolling some of the shapes which was fun. Only the ones with curved surfaces rolled. We also had a go at sorting the 3D shapes and we matched some everyday objects with the 3D shapes. For example, a can of baked beans looks like a cylinder. Can you find some 3D shapes at home?
In Art, we were thinking about symmetry. The children discovered that both sides of their picture need to be the same if it is symmetrical. This week we painted half a bee and then folded our paper in half. When we opened it up, we had a whole bee! Both sides of our picture were the same!
Then, to end the week, we all came together for our House Meetings. This time the theme was Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday. We started off in the hall where we learnt and shared information about the work of Sir David Attenborough and we watched a short clip of some of the most amazing images he has captured throughout his work. There was a real sense of awe and wonder and true appreciation for what the children were seeing. We then headed into our 'houses' and worked on a whole school art collaboration.
A fantastic end to a short week!
All back to normal next week - don't forget we have a tennis session on Monday afternoon.
See you all on Monday.
