TERM 5 WEEK 5

15 May 26

Another week has flown by. Another week of Phonics, Maths, Mystery Reader, Show and Tell, Music, Welly walk, RE, daily Worship and lots of outdoor learning - Living Life in All Its Fullness.

On Monday we started our Maths session in what is now the usual way - number formation, reciting the rhymes to go with our hand movement.

We also continued to think about 3D shapes. This week we investigated the 2D shapes that make up the 3D shapes.  The children made prints of the faces of the 3D shapes in playdough.  A cube had faces that were squares whereas a cuboid had faces that were rectangles and squares.

In Show and Tell this week we were introduced to Colin the Cockatiel - it turns out that Colin is actually a girl! The adults in the class found this rather funny, the children simply accepted this as normal and quite liked the name Colin for a girl. We were even shown some eggs that Colin had laid. Thank you Tilly for talking to us this week about your pet bird - we all thoroughly enjoyed the discussions.

We also had a rather lively Mystery Reader session this week - we listened (and joined in with the actions) to Kitchen Disco - yes we were doing the banana splits, partying like a pear, dancing like we didn't care and at one point we were doing the conga round the classroom.

In Art, we continued to think about symmetry. This week the children cut out a butterfly shape. They then used the squeezy paint bottles to put paint on one of the wings of their butterfly. They then folded the butterfly in half. When they opened it up, their butterfly had a beautiful symmetrical pattern on it. Some children also tried to colour their own symmetrical butterflies, making sure the pattern was the same on each wing.

And of course we welly walked and enjoyed lots of outdoor learning, communicating with friends, problem solving, role playing, creating storylines and solving 'real life' events. Albi created a desert scene full of snakes, luckily he was on hand to be our very own 'David Attenborough' who knew how to handle the snakes in their natural habitat. Again we were very lucky as we had our own scientist who was able to invent medicines just incase we suffered a snake bite. We discovered a HUGE spider on a brick so a new house had to built quickly and would you believe it, there was a 'fire' that needed to be put out using sand and water! It was all going on! More drama than in Eastenders and we loved every minute of it.

(Apologies for all the wet clothing coming home - they get so engrossed with their play they forget to put on waterproofs despite reminders - they are having such a good time regardless of being wet - they never moan, they just get stuck in.)

Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday.
