TERM 5 WEEK 6

22 May 26

We made it to the last week of Term 5.

This makes me feel really sad as it really hits me that after the half term, we are on the final bit of the year with only 6 weeks to go.

This week we said 'see you soon' to our Red Kites class as they headed off on their long awaited residential trip. We waved and clapped as they walked down the path and headed to their coach. Every day we 'checked in' on the Red Kites class blog to see some of the things they were getting up to. With their absence the school certainly felt different, it was quieter and we could just tell that part of our school community were 'missing', we knew they were having a great time though so that made it all feel a little easier.

Also on Monday we started our second round of Show and Tell - this week we (well, the adults really) were in awe of how a bedroom had been decorated - yes these pictures have been painted by hand - what a talented Mum!!!!! However, the first question asked was "Why has your Mum missed a bit in the corner?" Children are so honest arn't they.....never mind all the effort that had already gone into achieving this amazing feature wall.....they spotted it's still not finished - myself and Mrs Langford did try our very best to hide our laughter!

We had our usual Maths, Phonics and PE on Monday however, it was just too tricky to take a decent photo on the balance bikes. We were negotiating space and had to weave in and out of the cones in a much smaller space than the playground in order to demonstrate our control over the bike.

And of course we had our Mystery Reader - I cannot tell you how nervous Jesse's Mum was when she came in. She read Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see ? The children soon joined in with the repetition and thoroughly enjoyed the book. When we asked at the end how Jesse's Mum was feeling, she replied that she felt good and had really enjoyed it - that is fantastic to hear and reflects how well behaved and what good listeners the children are and most importantly how much they enjoy a good story at the end of the day.

Then on Wednesday it was No Pens Day Wednesday - an opportunity to put the pens down and focus on oracy, asking questions, responding, explaining, talking, listening, extending vocabulary and so much more.

We started our morning with a bit of toast for breakfast, using our hands not to write but to spread the butter and cut the toast. We also played some games - sending a magic hand squeeze round the circle without looking at each other! We had to do this a few times as the squeeze kept getting 'lost'. Then we opened up the talking tub full of lots of bits and pieces, We all took an item and then we had to describe it - for example, someone help up a yellow felt pen and told the ground it felt smooth, it was yellow and it did not bend. Someone else then put up their hand and said, my object it smooth and yellow but it does bend - it is a straw, the next person said, my object bends but it is green and soft - it is a pipe cleaner.....and so on until everyone had somehow made a connection to someone's object and yet no two people had the same object!

After a busy morning of talk talk talk, we had a busy afternoon of walk walk walk - we set off on our Wednesday Welly Walk.....

and we finished off the day with some music - some harp playing in fact.

In maths on Thursday we were still thinking about 3D shapes. This week we investigated rolling and building with the 3D shapes. We discovered that the 3D shapes with a curved surface rolled the best. We also found out that when building a tower, it is best to use shapes that have flat faces.

In Art we continued to think about symmetry. We used fruit to print symmetrical patterns.

As if we hadn't had enough fun and enjoyment throughout the week already, we headed up to Sheepdrove Organic Farm on Friday afternoon and where we in store for an absolute treat. A picnic lunch, a glass floor and a piano recital....plus a trip on the mini bus.

We hope you have had a fantastic half term - even though it has been pretty hot, hot, hot,

See you all on Monday
