Term 6- Week 2

The week we started our Daily Mile!

As our week began we were excited to hear that something new was being added to our daily routine, something that not only was going to improve our fitness, get us out in the fresh air more everyday whatever the weather but also help to improve our mental health....what could this be? As Mrs Brown came into Worship Robins all listened as she told us all about The Daily Mile!

Everyday from now on we will use our running track to run the Daily Mile, come rain or shine we will be getting outside and improving our fitness levels and so far Robins have loved each and every mile! We can walk, jog or run, the choice is ours, we just have to listen to our bodies and take part....just look how eager we were to get going on Monday!

When we weren't busy running around the track it was time to find those number bonds to 10 and although we found it a bit tricky at first, it really helped to use a double dice frame and recognise a larger part of 10 when it is presented in the ‘5 and a bit’ structure, and then subitise the smaller part.

WHY NOT TRY THESE?

Robins worked extremely hard to represent 10 on their double dice frames.....

Our Monday wouldn't be complete without Forest school and this week Robins were yet again mesmerised by the depths of the pond! What could be inside the murky waters? Did any creatures lay beneath? Well this week we were trying to find out! Armed with buckets and of course Caroline to help us, we collected pond water and waited to find out!

We also went for our trusted method of using sticks to see if we could dig out anything!

For some of us it was all about the 'animals' this week and by 'animals', we mean the ones that we made ourselves! For some of us we used the saw to make our very own log animals again but for others we used our imagination and took our own stick cats and dogs for walks after we had tied a lead to them!

Not all of them listened very well though!

There was however always time for some more fun in the Forest, from playing in the muddy swamps to the kitchen and of course time in the hammock!

This term is a love / hate sort of term for us. We love to see just how far the children have come with all areas of learning, their social skills, physical skills, language, interactions, friensdhips, reading, writing - just everything they do. But we hate to think about this being their last term in EYFS - their school journey will soon be taking them into Year 1. We still make sure there is plenty of time in their day for play and opportunities to let their imaginations run wild (these are usually when the best bits of learning take place) but they also have plenty of time to develop their reading and writing and this has certainly been a focus this week. The writing sessions take a little longer to complete as they are able to write so much more - just take a look below, and we are extremely fortunate to have the support of the Red Kites who are on hand to hear readers almost every day. It is still really important to read at home as the yellow books are quite challenging and take a bit longer to read - the more they read the better their reading stamina becomes. Keep going! And of course we always find time for a good end of the day story with Mystery Reader being the most favourite part of the week. This week we welcomed Eleanor's Grandma into  the classroom to read the story "The Girl Who Loves Bugs".

After the downpour of rain on Thursday (quite a downpour wasn't it), we enjoyed the sunshine on Friday. We felt it was too hot to welly walk so stayed in the cool of the classroom - apart from a brief opening of the perfume factory where fresh flowers were used, they were snipped, crushed, stirred, whisked and bottled -I must say it did smell good!

Before we sign off for the weekend - we just want to say -to all the Dad's have a great day on Sunday.
